Mesh integration has become more popular in recent years, but there are quite a few misconceptions around it.
Here are the most common ones:
“It’s the same as a wig.”
• Not true. A wig covers the entire scalp and is removable, while mesh integration involves attaching a breathable mesh base to the natural hair and integrating additional hair into it. It blends with the client’s own hair rather than covering it entirely.
“It damages natural hair.”
• If fitted and maintained properly, mesh systems shouldn’t cause damage. Damage usually occurs when aftercare is ignored, the system is fitted incorrectly, or it’s left in too long without professional maintenance.
“You can treat it exactly like natural hair.”
• While high-quality mesh systems are designed to look and feel real, they require special care. Heat styling, harsh shampoos, and sleeping with wet hair can shorten the lifespan of the system.
“It’s only for total hair loss.”
• In fact, mesh integration is usually designed for people with thinning hair or patchy hair loss (e.g., from alopecia or medical treatments). It’s not typically recommended for those with complete baldness, because it needs some natural hair to anchor to.
