Upcoming event in March.
Yesterday I was at Greenacres Heatherley Park in Grayshott for our 3rd planning meeting for Sorting Life’s Laundry – A Planning Ahead Event.
This free event will take place at Heatherley Park on Friday 27th March 4pm-7pm. The professionals who are taking part will give a broad spectrum of information on practical issues relating to death and pre-planning for it. Hopefully it will bust some misconceptions too! I am excited about what the event is going to offer members of the public.

When the funeral service for your loved one is over your grief certainly isn’t. Everyone's journey through grief is different but
you don’t have to struggle alone.
There are some amazing free local group resources that provide the opportunity to socialise, talk and share experiences with others who are trying to cope with grief.
Friends Together Bereavement Support meets at The Riverside Café, Farnham Maltings. There is an afternoon meeting on Monday 23rd February and an evening meet-up on Monday 2nd March https://www.friendstogetherbereavements.org

A Bereavement Café at Heatherley Park, Grayshott is held on a Saturday morning each month. The next café is Saturday 7th March 10am-12noon. https://www.greenacresgroup.co.uk/bereavement-cafe/

Local hospice care charity Phyllis Tuckwell is offering group bereavement support sessions to anyone whose loved one died of a terminal illness, such as cancer or motor neurone disease. Sessions take place at the Beacon Centre in Guildford, from 1.30pm to 3pm on the second Monday of every month. https://pth.org.uk/

The Princess Alice Hospice at Esher offers Community Bereavement Walks and Talks at places like Claremont Landscape Gardens near Esher and Denbies in Dorking. They also hold many bereavement cafes across Surrey. https://www.pah.org.uk/

This Saturday is Valentine’s Day.

It isn’t a day of roses and celebration for everyone. For those who have lost their love and soul mate it can be a grief triggering day. Do you know someone you can reach out to?

I cover a wide catchment area across Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire. I am always on the look out for suitable venues for Memorial or Celebration of Life Services. Last week I had the honour of leading a wonderful Celebration of Life Service in the Great Hall at Horsley Towers in Surrey De Vere Horsley Estate. It was an ideal setting which was enhanced by the flower arrangements by the local florist, Lovelace & Green. These showcased the favourite colours and the love of gardening of the lovely lady whose life we were there to celebrate.

This morning, I met with a lovely family for 2 hours. We talked through and planned the music, poems and other choices for their father’s funeral. There was laughter and tears as they reminisced and told me all about their wonderful Dad. Bereaved families have so much admin do to when they lose a loved one, often they don’t have the time to process what’s happened. Sometimes chatting to me is the first proper chance they get … a baby step in the cycle of grief. It is a privilege to be a sympathetic ear.

Yesterday I took my last funeral service of the year. Every departed loved one was unique, every life story was different and wonderful in its own way. Thank you to all the bereaved families who allowed me into their lives at such a difficult time and trusted me with the final farewell to their loved ones. 💜💜💜

“When robins appear, loved ones are near.” Christmas is a difficult time for those who have lost a loved one. The robin is a bird we associate with the festive period. It is also a symbol of hope and love. When they see a robin, some bereaved people believe the robin is their loved one paying them a visit. To others, it is a sign that their loved one is at peace.

In my spare time I am an avid reader. I always have a book on the go. I enjoy the escapism of fiction or reading about real life experiences. One of the most interesting and inspirational books I have read is Michelle Obama’s memoir Becoming. Her life story to becoming the First Lady was interesting and uplifting, and I was fascinated by the insights into life in the White House.
