Ouch, is that front-of-the-knee pain slowing you down? π₯ It might be Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS).
As one of the most complex joints in your body, the knee takes a lot of heat! 𦴠In fact, this condition affects 25% of the population and accounts for up to 17% of all recorded knee pain. π
What does it feel like? π€
Typically, itβs a dull ache right at the front of the knee. Youβll likely feel it most during:
πΉGoing up or down stairs πͺ
πΉSquatting or kneeling π¦΅
πΉSitting for long periods of time (the "moviegoerβs knee") πΏ
Why is it happening? π§
Itβs often about "compressive forces" when the knee bends, but the culprit isn't always the knee itself! Weakness or poor control in the hips π can throw off the alignment of your whole leg, putting extra stress where you don't want it. π
The good news? Strengthening the muscles around your hips and knees can make a world of difference! πͺβ¨
