Our occupational therapists support patients to remain independent!
By meeting with patients regularly, our occupational therapists (OTs) can work with them as their condition progresses, providing the support they currently require, and looking ahead to prepare for their future needs. This begins with assessing how living with their illness is affecting their everyday life. It can then lead to prescribing equipment such as this chair, which can be controlled to lift and support a patient into a standing position, from which their carer can then help them into a wheelchair so that they can move around the house, or go out into the garden.
By working with patients throughout their illness, our OTs can reduce unnecessary hospital admissions and help patients to remain at home, empowered to manage their symptoms and participate fully in life, sustaining their quality of life as their condition changes.
