I’m very honoured to be invited to take part in the Hogben & Partis Ltd Christmas memorial service at St Mary of Charity Church. This is an opportunity to remember and pay tribute to our loved ones, those that we have lost this year.
Following a bereavement, Christmas can be a tough time and the spirit of support, community and family is essential in helping us all get through it.
This service is for anyone who wants to attend. It’s a moving and emotional event. It is a special day, which means so much to me.

National Grief Awareness Week 2-8 December is an opportunity to raise the profile of grief and to have conversations to normalise the topic of grief for ourselves and our loved ones.

Bereavement is a experience that most of us will experience at some point throughout our lives and it is an experience that is unique. It has no proscribed template. The experience doesn’t follow a map or a clear regular path…it is different for everyone. It is different every time.

Talking about grief and bereavement helps …on both a personal level and for society as a whole.

Listening Helps.

We all need to be better, more open to listening to people experiencing grief. Listening and being receptive and respectful what is going on for them.

If I could offer one bit of advice it would be, listen with empathy. Don’t listen to make people feel better. Don’t listen to help make the pain go away.

Just Listen.

A week of awareness is a small step of recognition that the conversation needs to be ongoing.

This doesn’t need to be a conversation developed , managed and overseen by professionals ….it should just be a part of every day life ( and every day death).

It’s always an honour to work alongside the good people at Memoria Faversham & Mid Kent Memorial Park & Crematorium to create bespoke and person centred services. The staff and surroundings create a calm and respectful environment.

At Memoria, we know that creating a meaningful farewell takes care, compassion, and collaboration.

That’s why we work hand-in-hand with trusted funeral directors and dedicated celebrants, ensuring every service is delivered with thoughtfulness and grace.

Together, we create the space and support families need to say goodbye in the most personal way possible — surrounded by beauty, care, and respect.

Thank you to this family for their kind words. It’s our privilege to walk alongside you.

It’s Dying Matters Awareness Week….Cruse Bereavement Support do good work supporting people….in my experience grief is always unique to an individual…It doesn’t follow any proscribed pattern or path…sometimes you can cope with it other times less so, the same memory, or thought may produce floods of tears, peals of laughter or white hot anger or an all consuming numbness at different times….and this is all OK.
I feel one rides grief rather like a surfer on a wave…talking helps, mostly, although absolutely sometimes one wants just to be alone with your own thoughts.
Grief is a different journey for everyone and it’s important to respect and understand that. Don’t place expectations on yourself ( or others)
The balance of personal space and external support…is one that can only be navigated at that time and by feeling our way.
Those of us providing ( offering) support need to listen with empathy at all times.
Although universal, Grief is different for everyone.

This week is Dying Matters Awareness Week 💜

This is an opportunity to raise awareness and encourage all communities to get talking in whatever way, shape or form works for them.

If you need support, we're here.

🕯️ Shalom

Today is Holocaust Memorial Day which marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz- Birkenau.

The occasion commemorates how a third of Jewish people – and other minorities – were killed by the N**i regime in World War 2.

At 8pm tonight candles will be lit across the world to remember those who lost their lives 🕯

I feel this Emily Dickinson poem on the understanding of where hope lies when we are assailed by fears and despair is a beautiful evocation of the need to listen or rather accept what’s inside our hearts.

At times of grief and loss one can feel hopeless and helpless…and yet eventually, quietly in its own time the feeling of , if not positivity for the future at least a gentle but insistent music of another day will arise within us.

You don’t need to tend to it, you don’t need to feed , exercise it or even search for it, but eventually you will hear the song of hope again …and that is beautiful.
