On the 5th November, we held our first Health Awareness Day. 🍎 Events included presentations from LD Nurses, Mind and the PCAS Practice Development Team, stress management games, an opportunity to try samples of healthy food, foot care sessions and of course - a raffle!

Whilst the day was interactive and fun, there was also an important message - we need to look after our health and be aware of all the things we can do ourselves and what's available to support us.

A couple of quotes from the day.. 'It was good having all the different things to learn' (Nat) and 'I enjoyed having my feet done' (Scott).

Yesterday, the Government announced the National Financial Inclusion strategy which highlights the need for better inclusive and accessible customer support from banks so they can support people with a learning disability.

Research from Project Nemo shows that without this, people with a learning disability and their family members can sometimes rely on risky workarounds increasing their vulnerability to financial abuse.

Jon Sparkes OBE, Chief Executive of Mencap, said: “People with a learning disability tell us they struggle to manage their money easily and safely because of complex systems and inaccessible information. We’re pleased to see the Government recognising these challenges and the work of Project Nemo in reducing financial exclusion."

Our Mencap Manifesto called on the Government to protect access to in person banking and improve inclusive customer support. This strategy is a good first step towards supporting people with a learning disability across the UK to make financial choices safely and with appropriate support.

Chessington World of Adventures Trip -September 2025!

The day started well, with everyone cheering as we arrived at Chessington. We began the day walking round together; our first encounter was the penguins. Shortly after people started dispersing into smaller groups, some wanting to go on rides first, some wanting to see more animals. Throughout the day we caught up with different groups sharing stories of our adventures.

Fabulous day had by all 🥳

Welcoming Sarah, Practice Development Trainer and Kerry, Operational Support Manager, to the PCAS team.

'My name is Sarah and I have recently joined PCAS in the role of Practical Development Trainer. I come from working in Education where I was an SEN Teacher for many years and more recently working alongside adults with Autism in the Community. In my spare time I enjoy line dancing, art / craft and Makaton signing with my Lyrical Hands Signing Choir. I am really looking forward to coming out to meet everyone and supporting you all in your training and development.'

'Hi, I'm Kerry. I have worked in the care sector for many years (I'm not saying how many or that would show my age!!). I have had different experiences through the years, at different levels which I bring to PCAS as I start my new career'
