There is a particulary virulent strain of a sickness and diarroah infection in the area. It’s important you look after yourself and your loved ones whilst protecting the vulnerable as much as possible .

You don’t normally need to see your GP if you have diarrhoea or vomiting or both as it should get better on its own.

Visiting your GP surgery can put others at risk. It's best to call your GP or GP out of hours service if you're concerned or feel you need advice.

While the symptoms can be alarming for parents/carers, it is important to note that:

For children:

🔸diarrhoea usually lasts five to seven days, and in most children it stops within two weeks
🔸vomiting, usually lasts one or two days, and in most children it stops within three days

For adults:

🔸diarrhoea lasting for up to 10 days is not unusual
🔸vomiting usually lasts for two days

Please refer to the following website for further information on when to contact medical help if you are suffering with this bug

Diarrhoea and vomiting are common in adults, children and babies. You can have them together or on their own. They're usually caused by a stomach bug and should pass in a few days. Get medical help if you are concerned about you or your child’s symptoms.

🧍🏻‍♀️🧍🏽Just by taking a small step can make us feel more connected in our community, so why not hop on board and enjoy the experience of The Chat Tea Train.

🚂 The first Chat-Tea Train of 2026 will be departing from Waterside Train Station, Derry/Londonderry to Coleraine on Thursday 19th February 2026.

🎟️This event is open to people aged 60+ who have their travel pass card.

This initiative will benefit people in our local community who are experiencing loneliness or isolation, provide an opportunity for people to build relationships and connection in our community and reminisce about their time travelling by train to the seaside and bring joy and friendship for everyone who attends.

To book - please contact Karen Donaghy the Social Work lead in our practice .

The NI childhood immunisation schedule is changing giving even better protection with the introduction of the varicella (chickenpox) vaccine.

From January 2026, eligible children will be offered a combined vaccine for measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (MMRV) - as part of the routine infant vaccination schedule.

As with other childhood immunisations, parents will be contacted by their GP surgery to arrange an appointment if their child is eligible. If you are unsure if your child is up to date with vaccinations the easiest way to check is to look at your child’s red book or speak to your health visitor or GP.
