As a member of the British Wheel of Yoga we receive regular newsletters and there was something too good not to share in this one. For me, I strive to be open to challenge my way of thinking, trying to let go of those biases and ingrained perspectives. I don’t always get it right but I continue to try and self reflect.

Something that made me think in the newsletter:

Quote
“Don’t cross oceans for people who wouldn’t cross a puddle for you”

Which I thought was good advice but then someone else spoke up and said;

“No. Do it. Do cross oceans for people. Love all people. No conditions attached. No wondering whether or not they are worthy. Cross oceans, climb mountains. Life and love isn’t about what you gain, it’s about what you give.”

And I changed my mind

Throughout this new block of classes we’ll be looking at inversions. From bridge pose to dolphin pose and others in between.

Another thing to consider is not just our physical movement but can we invert other aspects, like the way we think? I’ll be inviting us to become aware of how we think and challenge if it really benefits us or can we take another approach 🧠 🧘🏻‍♀️

Happy Easter bank holiday weekend 🐥

For those who are fortunate to have a little extra time off over the bank holiday I hope you make time to fill your cup, in whatever way works for you.

Maybe a yoga class, maybe time with family and friends, maybe just some time in solitude and slowing down.

How we recharge can be different for all of us, and finding what works for ourselves can be challenging but, it’s vital in making sure we can show up for ourselves and those we love 🧡

For the wonderful people I get to share my Sunday mornings with, I will see you in the morning 🧘🏻‍♀️

A new block of classes starts tomorrow and it’s inspired me to share.

We’ll be focusing on shifting our gaze, trying to remain playful in the physical sense of shifting our gaze in poses but also taking moments to see if we can shift our gaze towards ourselves, can we let go of everything around and be in the moment with just ourself?

We know that to improve physically we must practice but yet there still seems a lot of discomfort in understanding that our mind also needs support to grow and develop, to learn to slow down and settle 🧠

We have the amazing ability to continue to grow and develop if we speed a little bit of time tending to the seeds we sow 🧡

Today is the last class of 2023 so a little post seemed fitting.

Thank you to everyone who has offered their support whether it be coming to classes or liking and following the social pages.

Christmas is not special for everyone but I do hope that whatever this period brings for you that you are able to experience love and kindness.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas

Kirsty

Ever wondered what goes into a yoga class?

Before I studied to be a teacher I never used to give much thought to it, I’d turn up enjoy being guided through a class and go home feeling great.

I’m sure it’s different for every teacher but for me a lot of time and thought goes into my classes, not taking into account the years spent training to receive my qualification but the ongoing thoughts, reading, practicing and pleasure in trying to create something well rounded that offers skills that are useful outside the yoga class too.

Whilst it is inevitable that some classes will be enjoyed more than others my sole ambition is wanting to provide movement for the body, an opportunity to engage the mind, invite curiosity and playfulness into our practice 🧘🏻‍♀️

Props or no props?? 🤔

If you had just decided to take up running and someone said to you, let’s do 10 miles today most of us would recoil knowing we haven’t spent time developing our body and mind to run that distance yet.

But…. Turning up to our first yoga class some of us can dislike the idea of taking different options or using props….. why is that?

Feel empowered to guide and support your body, it’s how we get stronger. Ask yourself how it feels, try different options to compare, use the props and most importantly let go of any preconceived ideas and be confident to explore.

I remember reading a comment a while ago which stuck with me, I cannot remember who said it or where I read it but in essence it described the ‘advanced’ yoga practitioner not as someone who is able to bend and flow into all sorts of poses but the person who is most connected with their needs in that moment. 🧘🏻‍♀️

Stepping into wobbly territory…..literally!

First time paddle boarding and I loved it!

Getting onto my feet was a feeling of instability but it didn’t take long to get a feeling of stability.

Another example of how amazing our bodies are, no matter what I throw at it my body manages to make those adjustments!

Thanks to Jordan for getting us safely on the water and up and running… well, paddling!

If only I had more time….. chances are if you struggle to prioritise yourself, with more time you’d likely find other things to put before yourself 🤔

There are times when life is so busy it can feel impossible to have any time to yourself but I don’t see that as a luxury, for me it’s crucial.

Everyone’s ‘me time’ will look different, and as the old saying goes ‘comparison is the thief of joy’

My question is can you prioritise yourself for just a moment each day, maybe that’s taking your morning coffee into the garden, maybe it’s putting on your favourite song whilst driving from one place to another, maybe pausing whilst having a shower or taking a few breaths whilst settling under the duvet.

We often lose moments in a day, lost in a trance of getting onto the next thing to do, scrolling through our phones. Today, maybe, you invest just those few moments in yourself, being present and asking yourself how you are doing.

You wouldn’t hesitate to be concerned for a loved one so try to extend yourself the same kindness 🧡

I’m so excited to see a catalogue of ideas and classes building!

I really enjoy my Saturday time spent planning and trying ideas for my yoga classes, I’ve just filled my first notebook which is all the classes I’ve taught over the past year 😱

I have such a lovely group of people supporting my classes and I’m so grateful for that.

Here’s to many more hours of planning and teaching over the next year 🥂

The beauty of change…

I have changed so much over the years already, and I love how I can see that. I’m not the person I was a decade ago and the person I am today will not remain the same.

I feel empowered to change, to grow, to evolve. I don’t look back and wish I’d done things differently, I honour those decisions and know they gave me the knowledge to be where I am today.

We can only strive to be the best version of ourselves and rather than looking in the mirror and seeing things you think you should change maybe take a moment to smile and give yourself a little nod for everything you have been, all that you are and what is still yet to come 🧡
