Our residents enjoyed a special Remembrance Day outing last week ❤️

We visited the Beacon Café in Ferndown, where the team welcomed us with warmth and even gifted us a cake to share. At 11 a.m., everyone joined together for the one-minute silence before taking a peaceful stroll around the church grounds. A gentle, meaningful morning that our residents truly appreciated.

Residents at Fernhill have been proudly taking part in the Ferndown community’s Remembrance commemorations.

Over recent weeks, residents have knitted and crocheted poppies to contribute to a stunning community display outside the Barrington Centre. The tribute has become a poignant focal point, drawing townspeople and visitors together to share in the spirit of remembrance.

Residents Kiki and Ron, joined by Companionship Team Leader Cara and Customer Support Advisor Lara, also attended the Ferndown Remembrance Parade, standing alongside Guides, Scouts, Cadet groups, community leaders, and representatives of the armed forces.

It was a moving day of reflection, unity, and gratitude — one that meant a great deal to everyone at Fernhill.

Residents Graham, June, Kiki, John, and his wife Damaris recently enjoyed a fascinating visit to the RNLI.

They explored exhibits highlighting the history of lifeboats and the bravery of those who dedicate their lives to saving others. The trip concluded with a relaxing stop at the café, enjoying cakes and refreshments while taking in the stunning coastal views.

A morning of discovery and shared enjoyment — with special moments for Graham, a former fisherman, as he watched the boats and reminisced.

Our residents recently enjoyed a delightful minibus trip to Cat and Fiddle Pumpkin Farm in Christchurch.

The crisp autumn air and overcast skies set the perfect scene for an afternoon outdoors. We wandered through the pumpkin patch, chatting and laughing as we searched for the perfect pumpkin. Some chose large, round pumpkins ideal for carving, while others picked smaller, uniquely shaped gourds for decoration.

Fernhill recently welcomed some very special guests from Wildlife In Need — a friendly chicken named Matilda and an adorable baby dove.

As soon as Matilda strutted into the corridor and lounge, she was met with smiles and laughter from everyone she encountered. Residents gathered in Cedar Lounge to meet her, gently petting her soft feathers, offering handfuls of corn, and delighting in her waddles across the floor.

Nora and Barbara shared a particularly touching moment, gently stroking the downy feathers of the chicken nestled between them. Matilda clucked contentedly, clearly enjoying the company and attention.

Our residents were recently treated to an impromptu dinnertime concert from members of The Minsters String Quartet.

The quartet had been performing at a nearby wedding when they decided to visit for a special performance. One member, Alice, is the daughter of resident John, who was visibly moved as he watched his daughter play.

Alice, who was thrilled to perform for her father, said, “It was lovely to be able to come and play for my dad and the other residents. It’s something I’ll never forget.”

The home’s lounge was filled with smiles, swaying, and singing as residents joined in with familiar tunes. “To be able to help residents and their loved ones celebrate moments like this is the best part of my job,” said Companionship Team Leader Cara.

We made the most of the recent glorious weather with a relaxing day in the garden, followed by a leisurely stroll to our nearby allotment. Of course, we couldn’t resist making a quick stop at Greggs on the way, to treat ourselves to some delicious donuts!

Our outing became even more delightful when we bumped into friends and had the chance to say hello to their lovely dog, Jacko, who was more than happy to soak up the attention.

We then headed to our allotment — our very own “secret garden,” where we settled into the sunshine, enjoying our sweet treats, conversation, and laughter 🌱☀️

Adding a touch of fun, guests had the chance to find the coveted Golden Cupcake.

A special thank you to residents David and Kiki, who supported our companionship team by helping out on the day and dressing the part in green and white!

To honour the wishes of two of our residents, Fernhill recently arranged a memorable outing aboard The Friends of Dolphin boat.

Departing from Poole Quay, the journey took us across the world’s largest natural harbour and as the boat skimmed the rolling waves, we were treated to fascinating stories of the harbour’s rich history.
