What did we do at today’s meeting:
Today we are learning about something we all need and can’t do without! The humble toilet roll. We are going to discover how many we get through and how many trees we cut down to make these essential items.
We reused the toilet tubes and made them into something beautiful rather than throwing them in to landfill or recycling them.
GOOD NEWS ECO NEWS
Scientists are working on a micro plastic pollution solution. The failure of the industry to regulate its own affairs has encouraged various organisations to pursue physical, chemical and biological processes. One solution uses tiny iron oxide particles that attract microplastics to form clumps. These clumps can then be removed using magnets and reused multiple times. Another solution is developing filtration at the point of items entering the water system. The third concept uses enzymes to break down particles and is in the early stages of development.
Green Tip for the Month for everyone to follow / try: Be aware of our personal consumption of everyday items.
Review of Action Points from last month’s meeting:
We looked at our anthotypes from the previous meeting and how they turned out. We assessed what worked well and what didn’t.
Action Points for this month, by whom and by when:
1) M (service users) as Chair is to prepare a short fact or lesson about sustainability or green living
2) All: Keep track of the avocado plant and see its progress making sure it has water.
3) Be conscious of our own personal consumption and not waste materials.
4) Be mindful that our shopping choices can help shape manufacturers methods and practices.
