Pets aren’t just for Christmas 🎄🐶

Welcoming a new furry family member is exciting, but it’s also a lifelong commitment. Take it slow, stick to routines, book that first vet check, and give them time to settle.

A little patience now builds a lifetime of love ❤️

Winter is here, and our pets need a little extra TLC in the cold!

From icy pavements to darker evenings, the season brings a few hidden hazards but a little care goes a long way. Here are our top Winter Safety Tips:
• Wipe paws after walks to remove grit and salt
• Keep pets warm and dry with cosy bedding
• Watch out for signs of cold stress, especially in seniors and small breeds
• Store antifreeze safely, it’s highly toxic
• Keep walk times shorter during freezing temperatures

Let’s keep our furry friends safe, snug and happy all season long 🐾

3 Tips to Keep Your Pets Safe This Festive Season 🐾✨

The holidays are full of fun, but they can also bring a few hidden hazards for our four-legged friends. Here’s how to keep tails wagging all season long:

1️⃣ Watch the Festive Treats
Mince pies, Christmas pudding, chocolate, xylitol sweeteners, onions, and alcohol are no-go for pets. Keep tempting treats out of reach and offer pet-safe snacks instead. 🍫🚫

2️⃣ Make Decorations Pet-Proof
Fairy lights, tinsel, and baubles can be irresistible to inquisitive pets. Secure cables, avoid low-hanging ornaments, and never leave candles unattended. 🌟🕯️

3️⃣ Create a Quiet Space
With guests, gatherings, and extra noise, pets can easily become overwhelmed. Set up a cosy “safe zone” with their bed, toys, and fresh water where they can retreat when things get too busy. 🛏️💕

Safe Toys & Gifts for Pets This Christmas 🎁🐾

The festive season is full of excitement but not every toy or treat under the tree is safe for our furry family members. When choosing gifts for your pets, a little extra care goes a long way in keeping them happy and healthy.

Here are 3 vet-approved tips to help you shop safely this Christmas:

1️⃣ Choose size-appropriate toys
Avoid anything small enough to swallow or large chunks that could break off. If it can fit through a toilet-roll tube, it’s a choking risk for many pets.

2️⃣ Avoid toxic or poor-quality materials
Steer clear of toys with strong chemical smells, low-quality plastics, or easily shredded fabric. Opt for reputable brands, natural rubbers, or pet-safe textiles.

3️⃣ Check for secure stitching and no loose parts
Buttons, bells, ribbons, and squeakers can quickly become dangerous if they detach. Always choose well-constructed toys designed specifically for pets.

Check out the toy section in our reception on your next visit 🐶

Case story time!

Vet Hanna’s day off was thrown off-track one morning when she noticed her cat, Amrod, straining repeatedly in the litter tray but not managing to p*e. Knowing that a cat not being able to urinate is an emergency, she brought him in to have a catheter placed. This was used to unblock his bladder and collect a sterile urine sample, which was analysed by the nurses leading to a diagnosis of struvite crystals in the urinary tract. Following a course of medication, Amrod can p*e freely again!

A ‘blocked bladder’ can have several causes and is most common in young, male cats and should always be treated as an emergency. Always call us if you are worried about your pet’s urinary health!

November is Pet Cancer Awareness Month…

Cancer is one of the most common illnesses we see in our furry family members but early detection can make all the difference. This month, we’re reminding pet owners to keep a close eye on any subtle changes at home.

👉 Signs to watch for:
• Unusual lumps or bumps
• Unexplained weight loss
• Changes in appetite or drinking
• Persistent lameness or stiffness
• Wounds that don’t heal
• Lethargy or decreased interest in activities
• Changes in behaviour or bathroom habits
• Abnormal bleeding or discharge

Your pet can’t tell you when something feels wrong but they rely on you to notice when something seems “off.” If you spot any of these signs, please don’t wait. Book a check-up so we can help keep your companion healthy and comfortable. 🧡

Early detection saves lives.
