I am so sad to see the anti-immigration protests that I felt compelled to share.
I cannot imagine what it would be like to lose my home, to be forced to leave my country and to fear for my life and the lives of the peiple I love. Some of those seeking asylum will have lost loved ones and witnessed horrific war crimes and will inevitably be experiencing a degree of trauma.
As a human being I stand by those who are in need of support and who have had to leave their homes due to war, poverty, or disaster. At our core, we are all human and deeply connected and when we work together to build a more compassionate and united world perhaps we can live in one where fewer wars are fought, and fewer people are forced to flee in the first place. Anti-immigration protests do not solve the root causes of migration; instead, they fuel hate and division. And it is precisely this cycle of hate and division that breeds the conflicts we should be trying to end. By showing solidarity and compassion, we become part of the solution and we can help create a world where everyone has a safe home, a fair chance, and a future filled with dignity.
