What does an ethical teeth brushing appointment look like
An ethical teeth brushing appointment always starts with the dog. Before anything else, we look at how comfortable your dog is with having their mouth touched and whether teeth brushing is fair for them at that time. Nothing is rushed or forced. Calm handling, patience, and respect for the individual dog always come first.
A responsible groomer knows when not to continue. We would never work on teeth if they are damaged, loose, heavily coated, or if the gums look sore, red, or uncomfortable. Brushing in these situations would be painful and unfair for the dog. In these cases, we would always recommend seeking advice from a vet before any further teeth care is considered.
Ethical care also means being honest about suitability. Teeth brushing in a grooming salon is about gentle maintenance for dogs who are already comfortable and appropriate for it. If a dog needs time, confidence building, or a different approach, we will always advise that rather than pushing ahead.
Above all, ethical teeth care is about long term comfort, not quick results. A good teeth brushing routine should feel calm and manageable for the dog and something they can return to comfortably over time. Our role is to guide, support, and prioritise wellbeing every step of the way.
