The power of CTs and relaxation ❤️
Delighted to share the story of one of my lovely lady’s journey through her pregnancy and birth, to help highlight how much, and in how many different ways, CTs can help us.
The lady had started coming to see me at 34 weeks into her 3rd pregnancy, on the recommendation of her friend, for help with really debilitating pelvic pain, which was beginning to make her really struggle with her day to day life.
We carried out acupuncture and massage with oils to provide pain relief, and I was delighted to her from her a few days later with the news that she’d been in much less for pain and had even managed to go to her pregnancy yoga class and perform movements she could barely do just the week before!
She came to see me weekly for those treatments up to 38 weeks and continued to get a huge amount of relief from the pain, which meant she could cope with family life and enjoy her pregnancy again.
For her birth, she was actually booked for a home birth with the local team that I’m part of in my NHS role, and we had spoken a lot during our cosy evening appointments, about the impending birth and the importance of relaxation and self care to encourage labour hormones. But as a busy mum of 2, she didn’t always get much opportunity for that!
As her due date came and passed with no sign of baby, she naturally began to feel a bit anxious and stressed (especially as her first 2 had arrived early!) so at 6 days after her due date, I popped round and did some relaxing leg and feet massage and acupressure, with an oil blend aimed to encourage labour. We had our usual long cosy chat about everything and anything, and I could see her physically relaxing as the treatment went on. I left with strict instructions to try and carry on the relaxation for the rest of the day
I was then absolutely delighted to hear the next evening that her beautiful boy had made his arrival, weighing a whooping 9lb 2 and with an active labour time of less than an hour!!
We’ve had a wee catch up since, and both agreed yet again that the power of relaxation when it comes to labour is definitely underestimated!
Congratulations again lovely, and I can’t wait to come round for a cuppa and baby cuddles with your gorgeous boy ❤️👶🏼
