A beautiful session with my aunty today whilst i’m visiting her in France. She’s 80 this year, has osteoporosis, both hips replaced (and a wonderful opens sun youthful spirit!). A few years ago she fractured two vertebra which have recently been re fractured. I don’t have my couch here so we used a table with duvet and pillows for comfort. Whilst some movements and positions required extra support, less pressure and specific focus on the breath, a ‘full body m.o.t’ was still possible resulting in greater range of movement, pain relief and relaxation of rigid/spasmodic muscles and an overall straighter frame. Most importantly she feels nourished, regulated and more comfortable.
There can be a misconception that certain bodies are ‘beyond help’. If we are lucky enough to make it to old age, it’s true that we’re likely to experience new limitations and discomforts within our body, but that in no way means they aren’t deserving of nurture, care and rehabilitation. Surely, if anything they are deserving and in need of more?
Just a reminder that bodywork in most of its forms, and my work especially are suitable and available to all bodies, working intuitively with what is available then and there. 💚
Ps, in the first photo I’d asked Sar to ‘smile so she doesn’t look dead’ - I then started recording and perfectly timed her response of ‘yes I died and went to heaven’ 🤍
