The sunshine came out this week and we were quick to head outside.

One family member stopped to gather fresh grass for the guinea pig waiting indoors, while others enjoyed a short stroll or simply sat in the sun for a while. Inside, there was a quiet game of cards, a magazine with a cup of tea, and plenty of conversation around the table.

Just an ordinary day in the home. ☀️

Holi, known as the Festival of Colours, marks the arrival of spring and a time to come together, share experiences, and welcome new beginnings.

For some, it’s an opportunity to try something different. For others, it’s simply enjoying the moment alongside the people around them, and having fun!

Because feeling at home is often found in these shared moments between both team and family members🌸

Some mornings it’s hair being brushed and set, other afternoons it’s a bit of Elvis on the jukebox.

It’s the ordinary bits of the day that count, getting ready, having a laugh, reading through a life story board together.

For some of us, having our nails done is part of a lifelong routine, a small act of self-care that feels rewarding. Sitting together, choosing a colour, taking time over each hand, it’s as much about the conversation as it is the polish.

Flower arranging was on the table too 🌸 Trimming stems, deciding where each bloom should sit, noticing the scent as the leaves are cut. It keeps hands busy and minds focused, and for many of us it brings back memories of tending our own gardens at home.

These everyday moments matter. They keep routines going, independence encouraged, and life feeling like it always has, just with a little extra support when needed.

Staying involved in everyday tasks still matters, whatever stage of life we’re in.

Drawing and shaping paper may seem simple, but it keeps skills active and minds focused.

For those living on a Dementia journey, familiar movements and textures bring reassurance and confidence.

Occupation isn’t about filling time, it’s about continuing familure activities to you.

Starting the week with the usual bits, maybe some baking or a read of a few chapters. There’s a lot of comfort in those familiar habits that make the house feel like home.

Thank you ! Everyone got up who wanted to, there was lots of smiles and laughter, and it was good to see the family members so responsive. It was a good time for everyone! 🎶

Music holds a special power, especially for individuals on a Dementia journey, as it can stir memories and emotions, even those thought to be long lost. It is simply a way to connect people through who they are and can help them continue to feel like themselves.

The end of January always feels like that final push before spring, doesn't it?💐We’re keeping things nice and steady here, plenty of hot tea, a few good books, and making sure everyone is feeling at ease. There’s a lot of reassurance in just sticking to our usual routines while the weather does its thing outside.
