Our Making Memories Trip - Part One

We have literally just got back from a couple of days away, courtesy of the Making Memories Team, and I can’t tell you how totally exhausted we all are, but what an INCREDIBLE time we had.

During the day we visited , something there is no way I would have been able to afford without the support from the Ruth Strauss Team.
We went many years ago, but Small was too young to remember a lot of it.

Amongst other things we were able to;
🐒Walk amongst the Lemurs
🙈Have cheeky monkeys climbing over the car and working out what they could rip off it. Our car came off far better than the one in front of us….
🐺Watch the painted dogs
🦩Gaze in awe at the beauty of flamingos
🦁Watch different prides of lions watching each other 🦓🦒Watch giraffes and zebras trot around their paddock together
🦌Gaze at the faces of majestic deer waiting to be hand-fed
🐆Gasp in awe at the beauty and power of the cheetah circling the cars

There were a lot more animals, but I don’t want to bore you with too many photos 😂.
It was truly extraordinary, and so think the smiles on our faces at the time show just how much we enjoyed the Safari Drive.But the day wasn’t over yet…..

Currently not okay — but also not giving up.
Counselling? Yes. Self-care? Absolutely. Bad days? Still happening.

I’m still showing up for myself, even when everything feels like chaos.

Car Park Chats

Another little ramble from me, sitting in yet another hospital car park.
This time, I’m talking about the inequalities between different cancers — not just the stigma, but the research funding, the support, the treatment.
How can something that affects so many of us be so uneven?

Having three different primary cancers at the same time is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone… but it has opened my eyes.
Each cancer is assessed, treated and funded so differently — and living it firsthand is a lesson I never expected to learn. 🩷💙🤍

I never imagined that sitting on a wall in the middle of a storm would reach so many of you.

Maybe it’s because we all know what it feels like to survive one.
To come out the other side — a little different, a little softer, a little wiser.

When the storm passes, my world looks changed.
But so do I. I feel differently, I think differently.

And in that stillness, I find peace. Until the next storm 🌿
