What is Surgery Assist?
Surgery Assist is your GP surgery’s virtual assistant, who we have called CHARLIE designed to make health and care services more accessible for patients.
Available 24/7, Surgery Assist helps patients with a wide range of health & care queries, offering instant support without the need to wait on hold or come into the practice. Whether it’s viewing your test results, ordering your repeat medication, checking opening times, finding the status of a hospital referral, refer yourself to a community service, or simply wanting support to stop smoking, Surgery Assist can provide quick and reliable assistance.
Surgery Assist uses advanced technology to understand patient needs and offer relevant information or solutions. If the query is more complex, Surgery Assist seamlessly connects patients to their practice, ensuring they get the help they need.
Available online through the practice telephone and website, Surgery Assist provides flexibility and convenience, allowing patients to manage their health on their terms. By handling simpler requests, Surgery Assist frees up practice staff allowing them to focus on more complex issues, improving overall experience for everyone.

ONLINE CONSULTATIONS

To ensure the best, safe care for you and your family, the practice accepts non-urgent/routine online consultation requests or queries during our opening hours (8 am - 6 pm)

You can submit a non urgent request online at fulwellmedicalcentre.nhs.uk

For urgent help during opening hours, you should telephone the practice (telephone lines are open 8.30 am - 6.00 pm) or ring NHS 111.

Weight Loss Injections - Update

Yesterday it was announced via the media that GP practices can now prescribe weight loss injections

‼️Whilst this is true the criteria to qualify is very strict‼️

Calculations say that there will be 220,000 patients UK wide that will qualify.

📆Access to general practice is difficult and resources are limited, therefore we would like very much to avoid booking unnecessary appointments for patients that do not qualify for Mounjaro injections, as this would block access to patients that are unwell and need to be seen by a doctor.

❗️The criteria to qualify is as follows:

• A BMI of 40 or over (or 37.5 from a minority ethnic background)

AND living with FOUR of the five following conditions:

1. Hypertension (high blood pressure)

2. Sleep apnoea

3.Type 2 diabetes

4.Cardiovascular disease

5. Hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol)

❗️If you do not have a BMI above 40 and four of the conditions above your GP will not be able to prescribe you Mounjaro for weight loss. (Based on the current guidance). Hence, we request that appointments are not booked for this purpose.❗️

The surgery will be conducting searches and will be contacting those patients who are eligible in due course.
