Did you know you can enable notifications on the NHS app and receive messages from the surgery and your trusted healthcare providers? You can enable this in the settings on your mobile phone or tablet.

By turning on your notifications, you can help the surgery to improve communications and also save money. By sending messages via NHS app notifications, rather than text message reminders, the surgery will be able to reduce the amount we spend on communications. These funds can then be used to help improve other services.

For more information and instructions on how to turn on notifications, please see https://bit.ly/4a3eEzz

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, and the HPV vaccine helps protect young people from the virus that causes most cervical cancers.

If you’re a parent or carer, please look out for the HPV vaccine permission form and return it to the school.

The HPV vaccine protects against more than cervical cancer - it safeguards all young adults, women and men, from ge***al warts and some cancers of the ge***al areas and a**s, as well as some mouth and throat (head and neck) cancers. ♂️♀️

It's Cervical Cancer Prevention Week! All week we will be sharing information on HPV and the role of the HPV vaccination and cervical screening in cancer prevention.

Every day in the UK, two women and people with a cervix lose their lives to cervical cancer and nine more receive a life-changing diagnosis. We have a real opportunity to change this.

Cervical cancer is almost wholly preventable, and the government and NHS England have launched their plan to eliminate it by 2040. To get us to our goal of cervical cancer elimination, three key things are needed:
-9 in 10 girls vaccinated as part of the schools’ HPV vaccination programme or catch-up programme
-7 in 10 women and people with a cervix screened as part of the cervical screening programme
-9 in 10 women and people with a cervix who have precancerous cell changes, or cancer, identified and treated.

Yet, HPV vaccination and cervical screening uptake is still well below what is needed to reach our goal of eliminating cervical cancer.

Our survey (YouGov) found that around 3 in 4 people said they would be willing to get a vaccination to help reduce the risk of six types of cancer if they were eligible. Yet only 1 in 2 said they would get the HPV vaccination, which does help to reduce the risk of six types of cancer.

Out of the people we surveyed between 18-24 year olds, many of which will be eligible for the HPV vaccination as part of the catch-up programme, 4 in 5 said they would be willing to get a vaccination if it helped reduce the risk of six cancers.

Only 1 in 2 people we surveyed were aware that cervical cancer can be caused by HPV.

Awareness was even lower for the other five cancers – around 1 in 3 were aware HPV could cause vulval and vaginal cancers. Around 1 in 5 people were aware HPV could cause a**l and pe**le cancers. Just 8 in 100 people are aware HPV could cause head and neck cancers.

Keep an eye on our socials through the week for more information.

19th - 25th January we recognize Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, focusing on the importance of regular screenings and HPV vaccinations. Cervical cancer is highly preventable with early detection and proper care. Encourage loved ones to schedule their Pap tests and learn more about the HPV vaccine. Knowledge and awareness are powerful tools in the fight against cervical cancer. Let’s work together to spread the word!
