If you’re worried about your drinking and want to make some positive changes, it can be hard to take that first step. These tips for cutting down can help you feel more prepared and help you reach your goals:

- Tell your friends and family – They can encourage and support you

- Keep a drink diary – This can help you identify any patterns or habits

- Start gradually, for example have at least three alcohol-free days each week or try switching to lower alcohol drinks and drink slower.

💜 Community Hub Support at GRP – Making Treatment More Accessible 💜

We understand that accessing treatment can feel daunting for some people. With the ongoing cost of living pressures, we also know that travelling or accessing support as often as you’d like isn’t always easy.

That’s why we now provide our service across community hubs in Gateshead, helping to bring support closer to you.

✔️ Medical reviews available once per month at community hubs
✔️ Appointments with your allocated Recovery Coordinator and an NMP/GP
✔️ Appointments are reviewed regularly and can be booked in advance

📍 Gateshead Family Hubs
We are also able to hold appointments in Gateshead Family Hubs. We can work out of all Family Hubs across Gateshead, so if there is a hub that is more convenient for you but not listed, please contact the service. We’re happy to arrange this to help make accessing support easier.

If one of our community hubs or family hubs would be more accessible for you, please speak to your Recovery Coordinator or contact the service for more information.

🌟 Volunteer Training at GRP – Building Our Community 🌟

This week at Gateshead Recovery Partnership (GRP), we’re excited to be delivering volunteer training as part of our ongoing commitment to building a strong, supportive recovery community.

We’re delighted to share that we currently have up to 6 potential new volunteers progressing through training, with DBS checks and learning underway. Once complete, they’ll be joining our service to help support others on their recovery journeys — a fantastic step forward for GRP.

At GRP, we run volunteer recruitment drives several times throughout the year. Volunteers play a vital role in our service — bringing lived experience, compassion, and connection, helping to create safe, welcoming spaces across groups, activities, and recovery support.

👀 Keep your eyes peeled this week as we share updates from some of the volunteer training sessions taking place.

If you’re interested in learning more about volunteering or future opportunities with us, we’d love for you to explore what’s available.

🔗 For more information about volunteering opportunities, please visit the CGL website.

Thank you to everyone who gives their time, energy, and support — volunteers truly make a difference. 💚

🌿 Looking Ahead to the Weekend – Support Continues at Leam Lane 🌿

As the weekend approaches, we want to remind everyone that recovery doesn’t pause at the weekend — and neither do we.

Weekends can sometimes feel quieter, more unstructured, or more challenging, which is why staying connected and supported can make such a positive difference.

📍 Every Saturday at Leam Lane (Recovery Connections), we offer a welcoming space where you can drop in, connect with others, and continue your recovery journey in a relaxed, supportive environment.

🕙 Saturday Activities:
• 10am – 4pm Drop-in (10am–5pm during football season)
• Sky Sports
• Cuppa and Chat ☕
• Pool & Badminton
• 1pm – 2pm Recovery Meeting

Whether you want structured support, a conversation over a brew, or simply somewhere safe and positive to spend time, you are always welcome.

Continuing to engage with recovery support over the weekend can help maintain routine, reduce isolation, and remind you that you’re not doing this alone — every step counts, even on the quieter days.

💚 Our community is here to support you, every day of the week.

If you’ve never joined us on a Saturday before, this weekend could be a great place to start.

🟦 New Non-Opiate EBI (Extended Brief Intervention) 🟦

We’re excited to announce fresh non-opiate recovery groups at Gateshead Recovery Partnership, now open for bookings! 🙌

📅 Starting soon:
Monday, 12 January at 5:15pm

💬 Why join a group?
✅Recovery is stronger together — sharing experiences builds understanding, reduces isolation, and helps people feel less alone.
✅Group settings foster accountability and peer support — knowing others are rooting for you makes a big difference.
✅You’ll gain coping strategies from others who’ve been there, and learn new tools in a warm, structured environment.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Who’s leading the groups?
Our sessions are run by Caitlin and/or Ben — both are skilled, friendly, and deeply committed to creating a safe space for growth and healing.

☕Refreshments are always available at every structured group — because recovery is about connection and comfort.

If you or someone you support would like to join, speak to your key worker or reach out to GRP to register. We’d love to welcome you! 💙

💬 The Importance of Check-Ins

Taking a moment to check in with ourselves — and with each other — can make a real difference. It helps us notice how we’re feeling, what we might need, and reminds us that we don’t have to carry things alone.

At Gateshead Recovery Partnership, check-ins are an important part of how we work. We begin every group session and all of our 1-to-1 appointments with a check-in, creating a safe and supportive space where people are met with compassion, understanding, and no judgement.

We believe that being heard matters — whether you’re having a good day, a difficult one, or something in between. Our service is here to support you at your own pace, in a way that feels right for you.

🗓️ Check-in prompt:
Right now, I feel ________ and I need ________.

You’re welcome to share in the comments, respond with an emoji, or simply read and reflect quietly. There is no pressure — support is here when you’re ready.

💬 We’d also love to hear from you:
Would you like to see these check-ins shared weekly or monthly on our page?

🌱 Reframing Resolutions 🌱

The start of a new year can bring a lot of pressure to “change” — to do more, be different, or fix things all at once. For many people, especially those navigating recovery, wellbeing, or supporting others, that pressure can feel overwhelming.

We want to gently remind you: change does not have to be big to matter.
Small, supported steps — taken at your own pace — are often more sustainable than trying to do everything at once. Even the smallest shift is still a step forward, and small change is always better than no change.

There is no judgement here.
Whether you’re accessing support, considering reaching out, referring someone else, or simply learning more — every stage matters.

At Gateshead Recovery Partnership, we are here every step of the way — offering support, information, and guidance in a safe and compassionate space.

💭 If you had to choose one focus for the year ahead, what would it be?
🩵 Being kinder to myself
💜 Asking for support when I need it
🧡 Taking things one day at a time
🩷 Learning more about available support

👇 You’re welcome to comment below, react with the option that resonates (comment with the heart emoji), or simply take a moment to reflect quietly.

Being here is enough ❤️
