I’ve had one of those weeks that really fills your cup 🤍

I’ve met so many genuinely lovely new clients, people who just needed someone willing to strip exercise right back to the basics and meet them where they’re at. Without that, some of them might never have stepped foot in a gym or felt what it’s like to start rebuilding their strength.

I’ve also met people who’ve been through challenges that most of us can’t even imagine, debilitating illness, restricted mobility, life-changing setbacks. And yet they still found the courage to send a message and ask for help.

That takes serious bravery.

At the same time, I’m very aware that building a business while working in someone else’s, parenting two small children, looking after two dogs, establishing ourselves in a new place, and having a husband who works away two days a week… is a lot.

Some days it feels like utter chaos.
Other days it feels like I’ve somehow fallen into a groove.

I think both can be true at once.

Moments like this remind me why I do what I do. It’s not about perfect programmes or fancy exercises. It’s about creating a space where people feel safe to start, supported to keep going, and proud of every small win along the way.

Grateful for the trust. Grateful for the people. Grateful for this job 🤍

Real life doesn’t run on a perfect routine.

No two weeks or two days are the same.

Some weeks you’re tired
Some weeks work drains you
Some weeks your energy just isn’t there.

Training shouldn’t ignore that.
it should adapt to it.

Some days we push
Some days we move gently

Both still count

Consistency doesn’t come from forcing workouts…

it comes from making them achievable.

"I started at 61 and was nervous because I’m not a gym person. It became about my health for the future - not fitness.”

A lot of people think there’s a window for starting exercise… and once it passes, that’s it.

But your body doesn’t know your age.

It only responds to what you do now.

I’ve worked with people who start because they want:
To move easier
To feel steadier
To protect their future health
To keep doing the things they enjoy

Not to become “gym people”.

Strength comes back
Confidence comes back

Energy improves quicker than most expect

You don’t need to rewind the clock .. you just start where you are.

" Started working with Miriam over four years ago when I was 61. I was nervous and daunted to begin with as I am not at all gym oriented but realised it was high time to prioritise health and well being for the future. Miriam is just exceptional at working out what will best motivate you as an individual and has a holistic, caring approach. She works entirely for your goals rather than imposing ‘one size fits all’ and I cannot recommend her more highly"

"Now that Miriam has moved location, I’m in keeping up sessions with her online and appreciate the benefit of that too."

“I had never enjoyed exercise before but I actually started looking forward to my sessions. I felt supported, safe and motivated.”

People often think they need to “get a bit fitter first” before starting personal training.

Honestly… most people start with me at the point they feel the least fit.

They feel stiff
Unsure what to do
Haven’t exercised in years
Or just don’t feel comfortable in gyms (one of the biggest reasons)

That’s actually the perfect time to start.

We don’t jump into hard workouts
We figure out what your body can do now.. and build from there.

Some sessions start with
“How has your body felt this week?”
Rather than...
“How many reps can you do?”

Training should feel safe before it ever feels hard.

Ill meet you where you are at... and build from there ✨️

Hi, I’m Miriam 👋

Im aware ive probably popped onto your feed after a LONNNNNNGGGG hiatus from posting.

So heres the gist...

I run a small private personal training space in Troon.

I’m also a mum of two, and my own return to exercise after pregnancy was… humbling. For a while even walking fast felt like cardio and running was absolutely not on the agenda.

It knocked my confidence more than I expected, and honestly that’s what shaped how I coach now.

No shouting.
No intimidation.

Just simple, structured training that helps you feel a bit stronger each week.

Most people I work with aren’t “gym people”. They’re starting again, rebuilding confidence, or just want to not feel wrecked after carrying shopping bags.

I’m a big believer that small consistent effort beats a random burst of motivation every January.

Anyway..that’s me 🙂

A bit of a life update ❤️

We’ve recently made a big family move and have settled in the windy seaside town of Troon.

Leaving our old place was emotional, not just the house, but the people.

For years I coached clients through pregnancies, injuries, low confidence and busy life seasons. It was never really about the gym… it was about helping people feel like themselves again.

So I’ve set up a small private garage training space at home and I’m now opening a limited number of 1-to-1 personal training slots.

This isn’t a busy gym.
No crowds.
No mirrors full of strangers.
No trying to figure out what to do.

It’s just you and me, with sessions built around: • where you’re starting from
• injuries or worries
• confidence levels
• energy levels
• and real life (kids, work, stress, all of it)

A lot of the people I work with don’t feel comfortable in big gyms, they just want guidance, support and accountability.

If you’re in or around Troon and keep thinking
“I need to do something but I don’t know where to start”

Send me a message...we’ll just have a chat first. No pressure and no hard sell.

I’m only taking on a small number so I can keep it personal.

My job. And sometimes I have to pinch myself when I think about it.

In the words of Chris Burgess . My aim of every session is to leave people better than where I found them.

A PT session (in my eyes) is way more than just sets and reps, chats on nutrition and hydration.

It's about getting to know that person. Elevate their day and make them leave feeling better than when they walked in.

Banter, deep meaningful chats, support, belly laughs, therapy. Whatever it entails. I sometimes think it's mad that I get to build a career spending my days with a smashing bunch of people

How often have things not quite gone to plan and you've sacked off the rest of the week?

Being able to adapt our schedules and routines so that we can still achieve our goals is a vital element of consistency.

Learning that if we don't make the gym or close that apple exercise ring on a Monday that it doesn't just put hault to the whole week ahead.

Rather, how can we make space on our Tuesday or remainder of the week to tick the boxes.

Life is linear and life won't always go to plan (dont we know it) but there will always be a way to get something in...

3 things you can try are

1. Make a contingency plan before things go off plan... OK, So if I don't train on Monday, when will my session be instead?

2. Shift the 'all or nothing' mentality. Know that one good session is better than nothing at all.

3. Shorten your workouts. If time is a factor Superset the exercises or Pop a time limit on them to ensure you get a speedy session in.

Come to the gym with us.
Staying consistent with exercise is hard, but it's made even harder when you've got a little one to care for.
Bringing him with me has meant I can stay consistent with my routine and connected to like minded people.
Do my workouts look like they did before he was born? Absolutely not. But I wouldn't change them for the world. Stopping mid set to put the dummy back in, a cuddle in-between rounds or just staying in his eyeline so he can watch.
I want him to see how prioritising your health is essential. I want him to see me working out, cooking healthy meals and enjoying the outdoors as much as possible. I want him to see the importance of taking care of your body both inside and out.
The reasons above are what keep me going week in week out....
What's your motivation?

29/08/2022

Are you an 'all or nothing' thinker??

All-or-nothing thinking often means that anything less than 'perfect' is perceived as a failure.Having these incredibly unattainable standards sets you up to feel like a failure.

All-or-nothing thinking keeps you stuck. Constantly yo-yo-ing from one extreme to another, flipping from restriction to binge eating or inactivity to over-doing at the gym.

And the main one - from feeling motivated and excited to feeling like it's not even worth trying.

Do you miss one workout and think 'eff it, I not bother this week!!'

You are not the problem. All-or-nothing thinking is the problem, and it's probably holding you back.

You don't need to change yourself, but trying to alter your thinking of 'all-or-nothing' is a good place to start.

- Awareness is key. Are you aware you think this way?
- Reminding yourself that any movement is good.
- Reminding yourself that you do not have to be perfect or complete things 100%.
- Trying your best, is better than not trying at all.

I'm fully aware my workouts and exercise routine is not going to be smooth sailing like it used to be. So I'm reminding myself of those points above. Congratulating myself when I manage to do a workout and not aiming for perfection.
