Bilateral vestibular hypofunction can occur for a variety of reasons and significantly disrupt one’s ability to function.

In some cases, it may be recognized that bilateral vestibular hypofunction is present, but the cause of it remains unknown.

One reason for the development of BVH is ototoxicity from medications such as gentamicin.
