We have been very proud and privileged to have provided mental health support or the community for 24 years.

I was having a conversation about anger the other day.

Doesn't everyone seem less tolerant, more frustrated? I decided to have a little look at what the Internet said about it. Is it just me that thinks everyone is quicker to jump down each other's throats?
Have you noticed this too?
Have you felt it within you? Or been surprised by a friends/family member's reaction to something you feel is a small issue?

This is an interesting article about potential causes. It does seem that I am not the only one to notice.

To me it's a stress response.

If you feel that your anger is getting the better of you and your relationships, consider talking it through with a counsellor who can help you unravel what you are thinking and feeling and therefore regain some control on how you manage your emotions.

At St Barnabas House we offer a private counselling service with qualified therapists. We see people face to face and we have 25+ counsellors who are appropriately trained, insured and supervised and we are open between 9am and 8pm on week days 9am - 1.00pm on Saturdays. If you need to talk in confidence or a close friend or family member is feeling low or 'stuck' in life then consider seeing a counsellor to help move forward.

I have personally interviewed and checked each new counsellor that joins us to make sure they meet the standard that we require, with regards to their training and experience. With 25+ professionals and our long opening hours we can quickly find a suitable therapist for potential clients and don't have long waiting lists.

As body and mind are so closely connected Juliet Wallace - Aromatherapy treatments are also part of what we offer at St Barnabas House.

Aromatherapy Massage
Hot Stone Massage
Pregnancy Massage
Baby Massage

In my humble opinion face to face and in the room therapy is more beneficial than phone, zoom, teams etc in lots of direct subtle ways, some if which are outlined here. During lockdowns when there were no other options remote counselling provided an essential back up and definitely has it's place in certain situations. But in general I would always recommend face to face where possible.

I'll be interested to watch this. Often counsellors are portrayed in a quite negative way by the media. Head on one side, sympathetic uh-huh and not much else. I am all in favour of breaking down misconceptions about how it feels to be seeing a therapist. We aim, at St Barnabas House, to make it feel like a welcoming space to visit when accessing professional help.
I like that Matt Willis gives a nod to the bravery of people who seek counselling.
This is so important. It is courageous and I share huge respect for people who are prepared to get support when they are struggling.

Maternal Mental health Awareness Week
I have just watched a fascinating webinar about the impact of infant massage on the mothers mental health. Apart from being a nice activity to do with your baby, it has other subtle benefits for parents/care givers as well as the baby.
Here at St Barnabas House we have a trained infant massage instructor (Juliet Wallace - Aromatherapy) and if you would like to book a course, please get in touch.

There has been a lot of talk about toilets recently so I thought it might be a good time to let potential clients know what they can expect from our business.

We have 4 individual bathrooms, with lockable doors that are suitable for safe use by our clients and staff.

2 bathrooms are on the ground floor so easier access for those with disabilities or compromised mobility.

We do not have a baby changing table in the bathrooms but if you ask at reception we can provide a quiet space and a changing mat and that would also apply to a peaceful place to breast feed. The counsellors do not encourage babies attending the session with a parent or care giver as the client needs to talk openly and honestly without distraction. But we do run baby massage courses so occasionally small babies are on the premises.

We have had non binary and transgender clients that are looking for mental health support and they are free to use the facilities safely and without discrimination.

Wishing all of our clients and staff a lovely Bank Holiday weekend 🌷🪻🌹
