ππ SUSTAINABILITY WEEK | 2β4 MARCH ππ
are proud to support Sustainability Week and the NHSGGC Climate Change & Sustainability Strategy, helping NHS Scotland work towards net zero by 2040 π±π₯
β»οΈ Why waste management matters
Enteral feeding generates plastic waste β but much of this can be recycled β
In Royal Alexandra Hospital ICU, thousands of enteral feed & water bottles are used every year π§΄π§΄π§΄
π‘ I led a quality improvement project to:
π₯ Set up a MultiβDisciplinary Green Team
ποΈ Introduce 2 new waste streams in ICU
β
We now have:
β»οΈ Dry Mixed Recycling for suitable, nonβinfectious recyclables
𧴠Highβgrade plastics recycling for enteral feed & water bottles β these can be reprocessed into new materials!
π± This is a new way of working and weβre learning as we go β but Iβm incredibly grateful π
π€ To our local ICU team
π¬ To Dietitians across the UK who inspired and supported this work
π And to the NHSGGC Waste Management Team
π Next steps
π©ββοΈπ¨ββοΈ Working with Nursing, Medical & Infection Control teams
π₯ Exploring how we can expand recycling across the hospital
Small changes. Big impact. π
Together, we can make healthcare more sustainable πβ¨
