Do you have an eye-related health need? A&E is not the best place to go for the majority of eye-related health problems. Please visit your local optician in the first instance if you have worries about your eyes or vision. As well as having the equipment to carry out a range of health checks and treatments on-site, opticians also have access to NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s specialised Acute Referral Centre – a service that can see patients and treat their conditions often within 24 hours.

Although most of us know about dementia, it is important to continuously raise awareness to ensure that those who may be living with it know how to deal with it.

Understanding the impact of glaucoma ℹ️

How does it occur? 🤔

Glaucoma develops due to increased pressure within the eye, which leads to damage of the optic nerve – crucial for transmitting visual information to the brain. This tends to happen gradually and without noticeable symptoms, making regular eye exams crucial for early detection.

How does it affect vision? 👁️

Initially, glaucoma typically affects peripheral vision which isn’t easily noticed. As it progresses, it can lead to tunnel vision and, eventually, permanent vision loss if left untreated.

Sadly, vision loss due to glaucoma is irreversible, so early diagnosis and proactive management is hugely important.

Regular eye exams are your best defence against glaucoma 💯
