James Cockburn Funeral Directors

James Cockburn Funeral Directors Established in 1932, we are Glasgow's longest standing Independent Family Funeral Directors.
(1)

Founded in 1932 by the late James Turnbull Cockburn, the company was one of thirteen Independent Funeral Directors in the Historical Burgh of Govan. Today we are the only Independent Family Owned Funeral Directors still operating in this area. All of our experienced funeral directors are fully qualified holders of the British Institute of Funeral Directors Diploma in Funeral Directing, and are ably assisted by a small but dedicated staff. Our funeral home lies at the heart of Govan and is ideally positioned to serve Glasgow, the West of Scotland, and beyond; located just minutes from the M8 and M77 motorway networks, Clyde Tunnel, Glasgow Subway, and public transport links. We are just ten minutes from Glasgow International Airport, forty five minutes from Glasgow Prestwick Airport, and an easy drive to all of the West Coast Ferry Ports.

When families speak to a GP office or hospital admin staff, please keep in mind it is the family choice what registrar the MCCD goes to, if you have any questions please contact our office and we can guide you through the process.

"The CMO guidance advises doctors that MCCDs should go directly to the registration office that the family choose to use and should not be given to the family or the funeral director"

This blog updates our blog of 1 Nov 2022 relating to booking registrar appointments and provides an update on the transfer of medical certificates of cause of death (MCCD) to registrars which is detailed on page 7 of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) guidance to doctors completing MCCDs. James Cockburn Funeral Directors work in partnership with funeral plan provider Golden Charter. If you have any questions, call us on 01414451124 and speak to our funeral directors.

How do funeral plans work?

Golden Charter funeral plans let you lock in the cost of the funeral director’s services at today’s prices, saving your loved ones from having to cover those costs themselves at the time of need. Even if prices rise in the future, once your plan is paid for you’ll have the reassurance of knowing there’ll be nothing more to pay for your funeral director services – guaranteed. Our plans also include an allowance towards third party costs, such as the cremation or burial fees, plus the minister or officiant’s fee to perform the service.
