St Andrew's First Aid

St Andrew's First Aid St Andrew's First Aid is Scotland's dedicated first aid charity.
(487)

We provide first aid training for every need, including First Aid at Work courses for those who need to comply with health and safety requirements and a range of community based courses for members of the public which give the knowledge and confidence to deal with life's little - and big - emergencies. As the official first aid organisation for some of Scotland's most exciting events like T in the Park, we are known for consistently delivering the highest standards of first aid cover and training. This site is not for booking event cover or first aid courses and is only monitored during office hours - not weekends.

This Remembrance Sunday...

We pause to reflect and remember our fellow members of St Andrew’s First Aid who gave their lives in service to our country.

Many of these brave men and women served in Civil Defence roles, their skills honed through St Andrew’s, and tragically, many lost their lives as a result of that service.

May we always honour their memory and the sacrifice of all who have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.

Our volunteers have been representing St Andrew's First Aid across the country today from Wishaw to London, laying wreaths, being part of parades and attending ceremonies to remember those who lost their lives. We are so proud and honoured to have been part of this.

Lest We Forget ❤️

You Glow Guys!!🥹⭐💫✨

THANK YOU to our amazing volunteers who have been providing First Aid cover at bonfire and fireworks displays across Scotland!

📍 This fab photo was taken at the Strathaven Bonfire Night, just one of the many events where our teams have been out supporting the public.

To everyone on duty tonight (and throughout the winter season) we truly couldn’t do it without you.

Stay safe tonight everyone, and thank you for keeping Scotland safe!👏

Happy Bonfire Night 2025 from all of us at St Andrew’s First Aid! 🎇🧡

Remember, fireworks and fun go hand in hand, but staying safe keeps the night bright and brilliant! 🌟

Stay safe, and please SHARE these tips to help everyone enjoy a sparkling, accident-free celebration.

Here are our top First Aid tips to help you enjoy the celebrations without any unexpected sparks:

1️⃣ Keep Your Distance:

Always stand well back from fireworks and bonfires, follow the safety barriers and never return to a firework once it’s been lit. 🚫

2️⃣ Cool Those Burns:

If someone gets a burn, cool it under running water for 20 minutes.

Cover the burn with cling film or a clean plastic bag and never apply creams or butter! 🩹💧

3️⃣ Sparkler Smarts:

Sparklers can reach 2,000°C! Hold them at arm’s length, wear gloves, and keep a bucket of water nearby for safe disposal. ✨🧤

4️⃣ Pet Patrol:

Keep pets indoors, loud bangs can frighten them. Create a cosy, quiet space to help them feel safe. 🐶🐱

5️⃣ Wrap Up & Be Seen:

It’s chilly and dark, wear warm layers and reflective clothing so you can stay cosy and visible. 🌙🧣

6️⃣ Supervise the Small Sparks:

Keep a close eye on children at all times around fireworks, sparklers, and bonfires. Little hands + big sparks = need for extra care! 🧒🔥

7️⃣ Emergency Know-How:

In case of serious burns, breathing problems, or eye injuries, call 999 immediately and follow First Aid advice while waiting for help. 🚑📞

🎃MWAHAHAHAHA! 👻

Happy Halloween 2025 from all of us at St Andrew’s First Aid! 🧡🕸️🧛‍♀️

Halloween is spooktacular fun, but even the best fright nights can bring a few unexpected tricks! 🕷️

Here are our top First Aid tips to help you keep things spooky, safe, and smiley this Halloween:

1️⃣ Flame-Free Frights:

Swap out candles for glow sticks, LED lights, or torches to keep your decorations glowing safely.

🎃 If you do get a burn, cool it under running water for 20 minutes.

2️⃣ Treats Before Tricks:

Before little ghouls and goblins dig into their loot, check for choking hazards.

😱 In an emergency, give 5 back blows followed by 5 abdominal thrusts to clear the airway.

3️⃣ Stranger Safety:

Remind your little monsters never to enter a stranger’s house, even for treats, without an adult. 🚪👀

4️⃣ Allergy Awareness:

If your child has allergies, double-check their sweets or go trick-or-treating together. 🎃

It’s perfectly okay to say no to treats with known allergens. 🍬🚫

5️⃣ Carving with Care:

Leave pumpkin carving to adults (or supervised teens)! 🕯️

Use carving kits, work on a stable surface, and keep hands and tools dry. No rushing, even witches take their time! 🧙‍♀️✨

6️⃣ Costume Control:

Keep hems short and accessories secure to avoid trips and tumbles.

🩹 If cuts or grazes happen, clean and cover them to keep away infection.

🎉 Have a fang-tastic Halloween, stay safe, have fun, and don’t forget to share these tips to help keep Halloween accident-free!

PLEASE SHARE TO SPREAD AWARENESS! 🧡👻

“What if I get it wrong?”… but doing nothing could be far worse.

Our Taking The Fear Out of First Aid drive is helping people across Scotland replace fear with action.

Throwback Thursday vibes ✨ — back to that time we brought the fear of the unknown to the streets of Glasgow.

Why? To show there’s literally nothing to be scared of when administering first aid in an emergency situation. 💪

This October, as we mark Restart a Heart Month, let’s keep busting the myths and building confidence together through:

📍 Training
📍 Confidence
📍 Action

Because every second counts — and every one of us can make a difference. ❤️

💚 World Mental Health Day 2025 💚

Today we’re proud to stand with people around the 🌍 for this year’s theme is “Access to services: mental health in catastrophes and emergencies.”

At St Andrew’s First Aid, we know that mental health is just as important as physical health. 🧠💪

That’s why we’re working hard to build awareness, skills, and resilience across Scotland through:

✨ Training Courses: empowering people with Mental Health First Aid and wellbeing awareness, so they can spot the signs of distress and offer support in their workplaces/in their everyday life.

🎓 Ready for Life Programme: teaching teens in schools vital Mental first aid, helping young people learn how to care for themselves and others.

Together, we’re breaking stigma, building confidence, and reminding everyone:

💚 It’s okay not to be okay.
💚 Help is out there.
💚 You are never alone.

Let’s keep the conversation going — talk, listen, and look out for one another!💬💞

🚨 Join Us for Restart A Heart 2025 – Learn CPR, Save Lives! ❤️

This October, St Andrew’s First Aid invites you to be part of Restart A Heart Month, a campaign dedicated to teaching life-saving CPR and defibrillator skills.

With over 3,100 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occurring annually in Scotland, early intervention can more than double the chance of survival.

Throughout October, our volunteers will be hosting free CPR and defibrillator demonstrations in various locations. Whether you're in a school, community centre, or public space, there's an opportunity near you to learn these essential skills. Visit our Community Calendar to find an event close to you and get involved!
