What does technology really add to social care when it’s used well?

In this video, Stephanie McKigen from Dalriada Homecare shares how digital tools can help staff arrive already knowing the person – from the small details like how they take their tea, to what really matters in their day-to-day life.

That’s something we’ve seen at Baillieston Community Care too. Over the past few years, care technology has become a key part of how we develop our services – not to replace human interaction, but to strengthen it.

When it’s done right, technology supports more personal, more informed, and more meaningful care. It helps build consistency, confidence and stronger connections from the very first visit.

That’s what good care should feel like.

We’re delighted to be featured in today’s story, highlighting the impact of care technology in practice.

This example reflects what matters most to us at Baillieston Community Care – taking the time to understand each person and building support around their life, not expecting them to adapt to the technology.

Through the work of our team, including our Care Technologist, we’ve seen how the right approach can make a real difference. From improved routines to reduced anxiety and stronger connections, it’s about using technology in a way that feels familiar, trusted and genuinely supportive.

We’re proud to see this recognised as part of the campaign and to share how care, when shaped around the individual, can create meaningful change.

One service user was initially reluctant to engage with technology at all. Four weeks later, he hadn't missed a single medication dose or appointment – and staff reported he was sleeping better, less anxious, and more connected than he had been in a long time.

That change came from his support worker and James, Care Technologist at Baillieston Community Care, taking the time to build something around his life – familiar voices, trusted routines, and real human connection through the screen as well as through the door.

Today's Care Creates infographic shares the story in numbers. Read the full article here: https://scottishcare.org/news/care-creates-the-human-difference-in-digital-care/

💬 This week, Care Creates… is focusing on Future-Ready Care and what it really takes for technology to make a positive difference in social care.

This blog from Nicola Cooper, Head of Digital Futures at Scottish Care, explores key lessons from the Care Technologist role and the Care Tech Revisited project, alongside insight from James Sinclair at Care City. It highlights something we’ve learned ourselves – technology only works when it’s built around people, trust and the right support.

At Baillieston Community Care, our journey with care technology hasn’t been about jumping on trends. It’s been about understanding what genuinely adds value. Care technology has been a major part of how we’ve developed our services over the last few years. Through testing new approaches, learning from real experiences, and refining what works, we’ve seen first-hand that technology can enhance care – but only when it genuinely supports independence and fits into everyday life.

That’s what future-ready care looks like to us – not just innovation for the sake of it, but technology that strengthens relationships and improves real outcomes.

Sustainable funding enables sustainable care.

As part of the campaign, we’re sharing this video from Derek Breingan, UK Head of Health & Social Care at Virgin Money.

He highlights the vital role care homes play at the heart of our communities. But without funding that truly reflects the cost of delivering quality care, the ability to invest, improve and grow is put at risk.

At Baillieston Community Care, we see the impact of this every day. Quality care doesn’t happen by chance – it relies on the right support, the right resources, and a system that properly values the work being done.

Care creates value for people, communities and the wider economy. But for that to continue, it has to be recognised and funded accordingly.

Care Creates… value.

Did you know:

📊 Every £1 invested in adult social care generates £1.98 in societal benefits
📈 Demand for care is rising, with funding needing to grow by 3–4% each year
🏥 Scotland spends 7–8 times more on the NHS than on social care

At Baillieston Community Care, these figures reflect what we see every day. Behind every number is a real person – someone’s family member, friend or neighbour – relying on care to live well and stay connected.

When social care is properly valued and funded, it creates the conditions for people to live with dignity, maintain independence, and remain part of their communities.

We’re proud to support the campaign and help highlight the true value of care.

This week, the focus is on funding — putting real investment into care where it truly counts 💡

As part of the Care Creates… campaign, we’re standing alongside organisations across Scotland to shine a light on the need for fair, sustainable funding in social care.

We kick things off with the opening Funding blog from Paul Kelly, who outlines why continuing to fund “failure demand” simply isn’t a viable path forward.

Caring for people also means caring for the world around us 🌍

At Baillieston Community Care, we understand that delivering high-quality care goes hand in hand with thinking about the future – including how we respond to climate challenges while continuing to support people safely and consistently.

Planning for climate risks isn’t just about the environment. It’s about protecting wellbeing, maintaining continuity of care, and making sure the people we support are never impacted by disruption.

This practical guidance from Adaptation Scotland offers useful insight into how social care can prepare and adapt:
