A first neurological physiotherapy appointment focuses on understanding both the condition and the person.

During the session, we carry out a detailed assessment of physical function and discuss your goals and priorities. Throughout the appointment, we explain what we observe, answer questions, and outline potential treatment options and expected progress.

You are welcome to bring a family member, and we recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows easy movement.

The first session typically lasts around one hour and provides the foundation for a personalised rehabilitation plan.

Absolutely not.

A common misconception is that neurological physiotherapy is only helpful once a condition has progressed. In reality, early support can make a huge difference — both for progressive conditions and after neurological injury.

For progressive conditions
Starting early is about building resilience. It helps people understand what gold‑standard proactive management looks like, so they can stay active, confident, and in control for as long as possible.

After neurological injury (stroke, brain injury, etc.)
Early treatment helps prevent secondary complications like:

Muscle tightening or shortening
Joint stiffness
Contractures
De-conditioning
It also ensures you’re engaging in rehab in the most effective way to maximise neuroplasticity and recovery.
Whether you’re noticing small changes with balance, mobility or fatigue, or you’ve recently had an injury — early guidance can help you keep doing the things that matter most.

It’s never too early and never too late to start.

We sometimes hear from NHS colleagues who feel they can’t treat someone at the same time as a private physiotherapist.
But the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy is very clear: patients are entitled to receive NHS care and private care concurrently, and NHS treatment must never be withdrawn or refused because someone is seeing a private physio.

In fact, the CSP outlines exactly how professionals should work together to keep things safe, consistent and client‑centred. This includes:

Communicating openly (with the patient’s consent)
Agreeing shared goals
Making sure both approaches complement each other
Ensuring no confusion, mixed messages, or gaps in care
Always acting in the patient’s best clinical interests
Both NHS and private physiotherapy bring important benefits. When we collaborate rather than feel we have to “choose” one or the other, people get better continuity, better outcomes, and a smoother rehab journey.

Teamwork across sectors isn’t just allowed — it’s encouraged. And it’s what’s best for the client.

👏🏼 Great care starts with a supported team.

Working in people’s own homes and communities allows our physiotherapists to focus on practical goals that matter most to each individual. It also gives our team the flexibility to be creative, adaptable, and fully engaged in the rehabilitation process.

A supportive and experienced team culture is an important part of that. When clinicians feel listened to and valued, it helps them provide the best possible care for the people they work with.

🙆‍♀️ Starting neuro physiotherapy early can support recovery and, in some cases, help progress happen a little faster.

But timing isn’t only about the body.

After a neurological diagnosis, life can change quickly. Beginning physiotherapy before someone feels emotionally ready can sometimes lead to frustration, overwhelm, or disengagement.

The most important time to start is when a person feels prepared to participate — mentally as well as physically.

Everyone’s journey looks different.

❤️‍🩹 Recovery is not just about exercises. It’s about trust, understanding, and having a clear plan.

In this video, our clients share what mattered most to them:
having realistic conversations about expectations, working with a therapist who understands their limits, and building confidence through creative, personalised rehabilitation.

Neurorehabilitation is a long-term journey. Having the right support can make that journey feel more manageable, more positive, and more empowering over time.

Movement doesn’t stop at borders. 🌏

Here’s one of our patients wearing her Alfess device while enjoying time in Sydney, continuing to stay active, confident, and supported wherever life takes her.

Supporting mobility in real-world environments is an important part of neurological rehabilitation, helping people maintain independence and confidence beyond the clinic. 💙

👉🏼 In neurological physiotherapy, early intervention means providing the right support at the right time.

It focuses on understanding symptoms early, building safe movement strategies, and supporting confidence before difficulties become more limiting. Early intervention is not about rushing rehabilitation, but about establishing strong foundations that support long-term progress.

Our physiotherapists take a personalised approach, working with individuals to guide rehabilitation safely and effectively from the outset. 💪🏼

While going through a rehab journey, it's easy to get overwhelmed by the changes in symptoms and feelings.

While your neurophysio therapist will always be there to address any doubts you may have, we can also share some of the most common effects of therapy.

✨This interesting study explores whether virtual reality can be an effective tool for detecting and measuring visual inattention and neglect following brain injury.

By using immersive VR technology, we aim to improve how these difficulties are identified and understood, supporting more accurate assessment and future rehabilitation approaches. 💪🏼
