Don't Ignore the Warning Signs From Your Basement! ⚠️

That musty smell or patch of peeling paint in your basement is more than just a cosmetic issue – it's a sign that your property is at risk from water ingress. Ignoring these clues can lead to costly structural damage and health concerns.

Our new blog details the 8 key signs that your basement needs waterproofing, including:

A Musty Odour: A classic sign of hidden moisture and potential mould growth.

Mould & Mildew: Seeing visible mould spots? This means your basement is damp enough to support fungal growth, which can be harmful.

Peeling Paint or Wallpaper: Water passing through the walls will cause paint and wallpaper to bubble, flake, and peel away.

Efflorescence: That white, chalky substance on your walls is a mineral deposit left by evaporating water—a clear sign of a long-term moisture problem.

Recognise any of these? Find out what the other four signs are and what you need to do next by reading our expert guide.

That beautiful antique could be hiding a costly secret!

Bringing second-hand or antique furniture into your home can add character and charm, but have you checked it for woodworm?

Those small holes and fine, powdery dust (called frass) are tell-tale signs of a wood-boring beetle infestation. While it might seem confined to one piece of furniture, the real danger is the risk of it spreading.

When adult beetles emerge, they can fly to and infest the structural timbers of your home – like your floorboards, joists, and roof timbers. An isolated issue can quickly become a widespread problem that compromises your property's safety.

Our new blog post dives into how to spot the signs of woodworm in furniture and what you can do about it. Learn how to protect your home before it's too late.

Your Essential Summer Property Checklist!☀️

The sun is out, and it's the perfect time to give your property a health check! Taking care of small jobs now can prevent them from turning into big, expensive problems over autumn and winter.

We've put together a guide on our blog, but here are a few key things to look out for:

✔️ Check for Cracks: Winter's freeze-thaw cycles can cause cracks in masonry. Inspect your exterior walls now and get them repaired to stop rainwater from penetrating later in the year.
✔️ Look for Unwanted Guests: Summer is the peak season for wood-boring beetles (woodworm)! Keep an eye out for new, small exit holes in any timber around your property.
✔️ Clear Your Gutters: Blocked gutters from winter debris can lead to overflowing water and penetrating damp. Ensure they are clear and flowing freely.
✔️ Control Garden Growth: Keep soil levels and plants from piling up against your home's exterior walls, as this can "bridge" the damp proof course and lead to damp issues.
