“What happens during an ADHD assessment?”

It’s one of the questions we get asked the most.

In truth, your assessment begins before the appointment itself. Once you book, you’ll receive a set of forms to complete. These help us understand your experiences, your history, and the challenges you may be facing day to day.

Your appointment is then an opportunity to explore this in more detail. Over the course of the session, our experienced clinicians will guide a conversation around your experiences, helping to build a clearer picture together.

Most importantly, this is a space where you will be listened to and respected. Your perspective matters, and your experiences are central to the process.

We understand that taking this step can feel daunting, but you won’t be going through it alone.

Do you have a question about an ADHD assessment? Let us know in the comments.

What's the one thing you're proud of this month?
As the month comes to a close, take a moment to pause and reflect.
What went well? What did you learn? What felt like a small win, even if no one else noticed?

At ADHD Direct, we’re proud of the resilience of our team. Showing up every day, supporting patients, adapting, and continuing to care, come rain or shine (and in Glasgow, sometimes both in the same day!).

If you don’t feel proud of anything this month, that’s okay too. Not every month feels like progress.

Sometimes, simply getting through is enough.
Sometimes, the lesson is the win.

We’d love to hear your reflections. Share them with us in the comments.

Be kind to yourself. And to others.

We understand that things don’t always go to plan. Delays can happen, appointments can feel frustrating, and managing ADHD can be overwhelming at times.

Many of our team are neurodivergent too, and we genuinely understand how difficult these moments can feel. We are always working hard behind the scenes to support you, whether that’s with prescriptions, medication reviews, or day-to-day admin.

We kindly ask that all communication remains respectful and courteous. A little patience and empathy go a long way, and help us continue providing the best possible care for everyone.

Thank you for working with us. We are here for you.

Your weekend challenge awaits!

This week in the clinic, we got chatting and realised just how many of us love to journal... so we thought, why not share the love?

This weekend, why not give journaling a go?

And before you say it: no, you do not need a brand new notebook. No fancy stickers. No perfect handwriting. No rules.

Just you, your thoughts, and whatever you've got to hand. 💙

Journaling can help you: Process your thoughts and feelings, release emotions that are hard to say out loud, spot patterns in your mood or behaviour, reflect on your day, your wins, your struggles,,,

And it doesn't have to be words! You can draw it, doodle it, scribble it. Whatever feels right for you.

Your journal is yours and yours alone. There is no wrong way to do it.

Let us know in the comments... are you a journaller?

As part of our Lived Experience series, this week’s guest writer shares an honest reflection on how caffeine and ADHD can intertwine in unexpected ways.

From relying on it to focus, to questioning whether it helps or hinders, this piece explores the small daily habits that can quietly shape how we feel, think, and function.

It’s not about right or wrong. It’s about understanding your own patterns.

Because with ADHD, even something as simple as a cup of coffee can tell a bigger story.

Did you know? It's okay to take a break!

Seriously. Step away from the screen. Get up. Drink some water. Move your body. Take a breath. You are allowed.

For neurodivergent people especially, breaks aren't laziness: they are essential. When your brain is working hard to focus, regulate and navigate the world, rest is not a reward. It's a necessity.

A few ideas for your next break

Grab a glass of water
Step outside for some fresh air
Stretch or move your body
A snack (yes, eating counts!)
Take a few deep breaths and reset

Your brain will thank you for it. Come back when you're ready. 💙

This one made our whole team smile!

We recently received the most beautiful feedback about our incredible Nurse Specialist, Angela Blair, and we just had to share it.

"Angela treated us with such kindness... for finally helping us have our daughter recognised for the hardships she is enduring and hope for the future to come."

This is exactly why we do what we do. A diagnosis isn't just a piece of paper, it's recognition, relief, and a door opening to a better future. We are so proud of Angela and every single clinician on our team who shows up with this level of care every day.

If you'd like to book an assessment with Angela or any of our specialist clinicians, you can do so via our website or contact us directly for more information.

We are slightly late to this trend but to be fair? Very on brand.

But to close out Neurodiversity Celebration Week, THIS IS WHO has been too busy to post on time:

Our clinicians: assessing, supporting, and showing up for every single person who needs them

Our admin team: holding the whole operation together with spreadsheets, caffeine and sheer willpower

Our CEO & Consultant Nurse Gordon Brown: who was literally on a conference stage this week talking neurodiversity while we were still drafting this caption

What a week. What a team. What a community. 💙

Happy end of Neurodiversity Celebration Week from all of us at ADHD Direct... late post and all.

A way through, not a way out.

Many people come to us after years of struggling to understand why things have always felt harder than they should. School, work, relationships, routines… often with a long history of being misunderstood along the way.

Seeking an ADHD or autism assessment is sometimes misunderstood as looking for an excuse, or a way to step back from the world.

But what we see every day is the opposite.

People come to us looking for a way through.
A way to understand themselves.
A way to navigate a world that wasn’t always designed with them in mind.
A way to move forward with the right support.

We are incredibly proud of every person who walks through our doors with the hope that things can be different.

Because awareness is not about labels.
It’s about opening doors.

As Neurodiversity Awareness Week draws to a close, the conversation doesn’t end here. Our commitment to supporting neurodivergent individuals continues every day, and we will keep doing everything we can to walk alongside those looking for their way through.
