Spending with ADHD...

For many people with ADHD, earning money feels like freedom. And spending it can feel even better. But that dopamine hit can quietly turn into impulsive spending, anxiety, and a cycle that’s hard to break.

In this week’s column, our writer explores the link between ADHD, dopamine, and money, and why boundaries matter more than perfection. This isn’t about shame or never spending. It’s about pausing, reflecting, and finding small ways to do better next time.

Not perfect. Just better.

Let’s review an important definition.

What is ADHD?
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person regulates attention, activity, emotion, and impulses. Every person with ADHD is different, with their own strengths and challenges.

A diagnosis can be incredibly helpful. It can bring clarity, language, and access to support. But you don’t need to wait for a diagnosis to be kinder to yourself, to lower unnecessary pressure, or to start building strategies that make life more manageable.

Understanding often begins before a label. And that still counts. If you want to explore tailored support, you know where to find us.

This week in our weekly column, we’re talking about impulsivity and ADHD.

Almost everyone with ADHD has experienced that moment where words or actions come out before there’s time to stop them. Sometimes it’s something said in a conversation. Sometimes it’s spending money you didn’t plan to. And often, it’s followed by frustration, regret, or self-blame.

In this piece, our guest writer reflects on impulsivity, why it happens, and the small, practical tools that can help create pause before impulse takes over. Because impulsivity isn’t a personal failure. It’s something that can be understood, worked with, and managed.

Today we’re celebrating more than bricks.

We’re celebrating play. The kind that has no outcome, no pressure, no productivity target. The kind where time disappears, imagination takes the lead, and joy does the building.

Play isn’t just for children. Adults need it too. Time to rest, tinker, create, zone out, hyperfocus, and simply be. Sitting on the floor. Making a mess. Starting again.

For many neurodivergent children, play is also a language. Through imaginative play, building, storytelling, and repetition, they explore the world, regulate emotions, practise problem-solving, and feel safe being themselves.

There’s no right way to play. No age limit. No instruction manual required.

So today, whether you’re building castles, spaceships, abstract masterpieces, or just enjoying the process, we celebrate you taking time to do something you love.

Happy LEGO Day. Build joy. 🧠💛🧱

Let’s review an important definition.

What is Autism (ASD)?
Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person thinks, communicates, and experiences the world. Every autistic individual is unique, with different strengths, needs, and ways of being.

A diagnosis can be validating and life-changing for many people.
But you don’t have to wait for a diagnosis to respect your needs, make accommodations, or explore strategies that support your wellbeing.

Understanding yourself is valuable at every stage. And if you need further support, you know where to find us.

Hormones matter.
In this video, Katie Deas explains how hormonal changes and the menstrual cycle can affect ADHD symptoms, from focus and energy to mood and emotional regulation.

Understanding these patterns can help you make sense of symptom changes, reduce self-blame, and plan support that actually fits your body.
Knowledge is power when it comes to ADHD.

If you need further support, you know where we are. No waiting lists. Just support tailored to your needs.
