Breaking the silence this International Women’s Day
This week, we published our first report exploring the stigma, perceptions and attitudes surrounding medicated weight loss.
It found that women using GLP-1 treatment are:
🤫 More likely to hide their treatment than men (69% vs 53% of men)
⚠️ More likely to experience judgement (38% vs 29% of men), especially on social media
Weight bias has long affected women disproportionately, and attitudes towards GLP-1 treatment appear to reflect that.
When people feel unable to speak openly about medically supervised care, it can impact confidence, treatment adherence and long-term health outcomes.
At Simple Online Healthcare, we believe obesity care should never be about chasing thinness. It should be about supporting people to improve their health in ways that are clinically safe, sustainable and empowering.
That can include:
• building healthier habits around nutrition and exercise
• improving metabolic health
• reducing long-term risk of chronic disease
GLP-1 treatment, when appropriate, is one part of that wider picture.
The goal is better health, greater mobility, improved confidence and long-term wellbeing — not just a lower number on the scale.
Creating a supportive environment where people feel comfortable accessing effective treatment matters just as much as the treatment itself.
