Meet our new consultant! 👋

We are delighted to introduce Mrs Margaret MacLean, Consultant Breast Surgeon, who has joined our specialist team.

With over 15 years as a Consultant Breast Surgeon in the NHS and practising since 1996, she brings extensive expertise in the diagnosis and management of breast conditions.

Her areas of expertise include:

🔍 Investigation and management of benign and malignant breast disease
🩺 Breast cancer surgery and oncoplastic techniques
🛡️ Screening for high-risk patients
👩‍⚕️ Management of gynaecomastia

Mrs MacLean graduated from Cambridge and Edinburgh Universities and was awarded her MD thesis for research on sentinel node biopsy in breast cancer.

She is committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care and supporting individuals through every stage of their treatment journey.

✨ What an incredible day at the Scottish Optical Conference (SOC) 2025!

On Sunday, we proudly represented our Glasgow and Edinburgh hospitals as a Gold Sponsor at SOC 2025, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Glasgow.

SOC is Scotland's largest optical exhibition and the second largest in the UK, bringing together professionals from across the optical sector 👁️

As part of our sponsorship, Dr Clifford Weir delivered an engaging lecture to attendees. 🤝 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗚𝗣𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗢𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗮𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘀

On Wednesday, we welcomed GPs to an evening of learning and hands-on experience, exploring how robotic technology is helping improve care for people living with 𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧 and 𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬.

The session included expert insights from 𝐌𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐥, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and 𝐋𝐞𝐰𝐢𝐬 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐲 from stryker, along with a demonstration of the 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐨 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜-𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 🤖

Held at Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens, the event offered a great opportunity for discussion, learning and collaboration around the assessment and treatment of knee pain, including robotic-assisted surgical options.

𝗥𝗖𝗡 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 - 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀💙

Last week, some of our senior clinical team welcomed two representatives from the 𝗥𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 to our hospital.

The RCN team set up a stand filled with resources, membership information and some freebies, giving our colleagues the chance to learn more about how RCN supports nurses across Scotland and the benefits of joining.

It was great that lots of colleagues stopped by to engage and find out more 🙌💬

𝗜𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘀𝗵𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗰𝗞𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮

This week, our Theatre staff came together for a heartfelt memorial in honour of our dear colleague and friend, 𝗔𝘀𝗵𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗰𝗞𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮, who sadly passed away in August 2024.

A tree has been planted within the hospital grounds, with a plaque placed beside it in Ashlene’s memory. The plaque includes the song “𝗦𝘄𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗢’ 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗲” by Guns N' Roses, a touching tribute that reflects the love Ashlene had for the band and a reminder of the joy and light she brought into our lives ✨

The gathering gave staff the chance to pause, reflect and pay their respects to a much-missed member of our team. Ashlene remains very much in our thoughts and will always hold a special place in our hearts ❤️🌳
