ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING INFO
There are 9 roles available:
-Honorary president
-President
-Secretary
-Treasurer
-Publicity convenor
-Fundraising convenor
-Social secretary
-1st Year member
- up to 2 X extraordinary members
Please feel free to message our page, or the individuals below, for any more information regarding these.

---- President (X1) -----
This role is available to those who have been on committee previously for at least 1 year.
As president, it is your role to:
-organise and lead meetings
-make sure that the committee know what they’re doing!!
-communicate with the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service regularly
-maintain close communication with SRC and GUSA (who have been hugely important allies of the GB society)
-look after all the PR equipment and take these to events (tshirts/ flyers/ information leaflets) therefore ideal to have strong arms for all the lugging about(!)
-have a solid understanding about the society and blood donation more generally
-communicate with committee and wider society regularly by posting on the GUGB members page and GUGB page
-facilitating new ideas that other committee members have and putting them into action
-ensuring that the committee maintain motivation
-keep scores for the Blood Battle and make sure that they are posted regularly on the Blood Battle event page
Current pres - Clodagh Beattie

---- Honorary President -----
This position is reserved for those on committee who have previously held the role of President. The hon pres is there to help out the current President and offer guidance to committee members when they are organising different events and getting in contact with different people. They are the ‘knowledgeable’ elder of the committee...
Current hons pres: Rachel Imray

---- Treasurer-----
As treasurer, it is your role to manage the club’s money.
This includes:
-keeping a note of all of the club’s spending
-counting the donations from all fundraising events and transferring the collected money to charity
-communicating with the bank
-informing the committee of the society's savings
-buying prizes for events
This role is well suited to those who are organised, are good at counting and also good at keeping a hold of the black money box (even after a few beers...)
Current treasurer - Fan Henry

---- Secretary -----
As secretary it is your job to deal with all correspondence along with the President!
This includes:
-keeping on top of the GUGB emails
-assisting in taking minutes at meetings (and helping to assign future tasks with the president)
-At the start of term, it is the secretary's job to affiliate with the SRC and any other unions so that we can book rooms on campus through central timetabling, get use of minibuses throughout the year, and also to apply for the HEAR application at the end of the year so that the president/secretary/treasurer roles can be recognised on your transcript when finishing uni
-At the start of the year, secretary can also book a stall at the Fresher's Fair via the SRC, and also organise a room booking for the information evening which is hosted within the first couple of weeks of uni.
Overall, this role is suited to those who are email savvy, organised, good communicators (esp. with the President), able to stay on top of varying tasks and generally helping out along with the other committee members at bakesales and socials.
Current secretary - Emma Caney

---- Publicity convenor -----
As the PR committee member it is your responsibility to bridge the communication between GUGB members, the healthcare services (Scotblood or NHS Scotland), and the public. This is mostly done through the social media accounts, where you:
-post about blood stock levels
-GUGB events taking place
-healthcare announcements (for example, we have tried to stay up to date with the current advice surrounding blood donation during the pandemic)
Other responsibilities include:
-researching developments within blood donation
-communicating with other societies about matters
-supporting the social secretary in some of their work too
Also whilst looking up graduate schemes you may find a significant number of them require you to manage a company’s social media accounts, as well as researching information and condensing it into briefing notes. This position would reflect these skills rather well for anyone looking to go into this sort of work – plus it’s good fun being the one to document all the craic at GUGB!
Current PR convenor - Rosie McLeman

---- Social Secretary -----
As social secretary your main role is, as the name suggests, organising the social and fun activities for GUGB (COVID pending). Our favourite event has been Glitter Hive which involves fundraising by selling glitter to unsuspecting students in Hive. There’s also the yearly GUGB quiz in non-COVID times which is a great event to be involved in and marks the starting point for the annual Blood Battle. In the past we’ve also had committee flat crawls which have been messy but a good time.
This role is for you if you are a sociable individual who is good at organising and coordinating with people!!
Current social sec - Keir Smith

---- Fundraising -----
As fundraiser, your main roles are to:
-organise fundraising events such as bake sales throughout the year
-facilitate the Give Blood society in choosing their chosen charity for the year
-think of different ways to raise money for the society’s chosen charity (i.e. through organised hillwalks such as the Ben Nevis climb in 2018 for Bloodwise)
-generally support the society through attending meetings and planning etc
Current fundraising convenor - Leanne Martin

---- 1st Year member -----
First-year representative:
-get to know how the GUGB committee works!! (i.e. go to the meetings!)
-help out with advertising (i.e. poster making and social media)
-share posts on Facebook to raise awareness (i.e. reaching out in your year group chat!)
-bake something for bake sales!
-help out at stalls (i.e. Glitter Hive, library, Gym)
-be supportive
There isn’t an exact “to do” list for this role so it is just about contributing what you can and getting involved with the committee

---- extraordinary member -----
The “extraordinary” member/s, similar to the 1st year member, does not have a specific role assigned to them but rather are there to:
-lend a hand with the varying events
-share things on social media
-help post on the Instagram page during events such as glitter Hive and bakesales
-help out at stalls
-assist the other committee members with their tasks

This is an ideal role for someone who has perhaps not been on committee before but would like to be more involved in the club!
Current extraordinary member - Tracy Lee Zainab Munir

⭐️TWO COMMITTEE POSTS AVAILABLE⭐️

Welcome back everyone and hope all your summers were fab and COVID free!

SOCIAL SEC POST

With social distancing being relaxed a wee bit again we are in need of a social sec for our society to see us through glitter hive and some committee socials.
There’s not too much pressure on the role, we would probably have a social about once a semester so not too much for you to organise. Also looks great on ye olde CV and we are quite nice people so will be a good time 🎉

FIRST YEAR POST

GUGB are reaching out to any first years at the uni as we would love to have someone there to keep us young & hip…

Give us a message if you are interested and we will fill you in on the details of the first committee meeting ☕️

xoxo, GUGB

Our Story

We are Glasgow University Give Blood - the society dedicated to improving blood donation among students at Glasgow University. Founded in 2016, GUGB hosts events to educate students about blood donation and encourage them to become donors.

One blood donation can save up to three lives, and just one teaspoon of blood can save a premature baby. As well as saving lives in the acutely unwell, receiving a transfusion can be truly life-changing in alleviating symptoms and improving quality of life for those in need.

With only 3% of eligible Scots giving blood, the need for new, regular blood donors is crucial. Students are an ideal group to encourage to donate, since they usually meet the age criteria and are generally fit and well. By starting donating early on our hope is that many students will go on to donate blood throughout their lives.
