First super cold run of the season 🥶
1 degree at just before 8am this morning.
I actually love a crisp chilly morning run, it feels amazing! There are some pretty important things to keep in mind though:
1. Dress warm (but not too warm) think layers. I like a base layer and then my running jacket.
You tend to heat up very quickly and there's nothing worse than feeling too warm.
2. Make sure ears and/or head are covered by a headband or hat as we lose the most heat from here. I much prefer a headband. Gloves too! I sometimes end up taking them off but its good to have them if you need them.
3. Warm up before you leave the house. This is a must. Cold muscles are high risk for injury. 5 minutes of squats, lunges, light jogging, elbow to knee raises should do the trick.
4. Don't try to run at your warm weather pace. The freezing air is a shock to the system and your body is working hard to regulate your temperature. Accept that the pace might be a bit slower!
5. When you are finished make sure you get out of your sweaty running clothes quickly or you will end up chilled through. Take on plenty of hot fluids and cosy up in warm clothes.
Never let a cold morning put you off going out. Just make sure you are prepared and dont forget to stop and enjoy the views ☀️
