It’s still the case that many people think of as some massive one-off event! So when people express to them they’ve had trauma and then don’t come up with a 911 scenario or a Tsunami or an extreme event, they 'poo poo' it as not really being “traumatic” enough! That’s just so untrue! Also because trauma isn’t what happens outside of you nor the external event, trauma is what happens inside of you and how you feel because of that trauma and how it affected you.
Nobody else has the right to tell you that what you’ve experienced on any level was or was not traumatising. That is completely down to you to decide and if you think it was trauma, it was trauma.
Whether you have a selection of little t trauma or big t trauma or both, it’s all relevant and it all matters, and I for one am so sorry for what you’ve been through. Trauma of any kind is hard and we need to be acknowledged, heard, and witnessed but only by others who can be there for us.
So when speaking about your trauma, try to be around those who can hear you emotionally. Not everyone can and it’s best to let those people stay in their denial until you’ve done enough work on yourself to not need their validation and be able to put in boundaries and stay safe.
Until soon, take good care of you and any of your more traumatised younger parts.
Hugs
