When children are off school, routines change.
Bedtimes drift, energy builds and little emotions can become very big, very quickly.

Here are some simple reset moves you can use at any point in the day when things start to feel wobbly.

Try this when ...
• everyone is getting snappy
• before heading out
• before screens
• before bedtime

Regulate first and everything else feels easier after 🤍

Today was just… lovely.

We moved slowly,
We spoke quietly,
We took our time.

The class started with checking in with ourselves before we took part in a gentle yoga flow to settle our bodies, and partner posses to break the ice. The girls made their own oat & honey face masks, lip scrubs and bath salts before enjoying warm foot spas, and time chilling in their masks and nail painting.

No rushing, just calm, care and happy little faces.

Watching children learn how to slow down and look after themselves is honestly one of my favourite things about what I do 🧡

If your daughter was with us today we would love their feedback ☺️

"Calm down” is one of the hardest things for a child to hear when they are dis-regulated.

Not because they’re being difficult but because their body is overwhelmed.

The words we use can either soothe a nervous system… or add fuel to it.

These simple phrases help a child feel safe, seen and supported in the moment.

Use it this week.
Notice the difference 🤍

When a child is overwhelmed, they need regulation.

In those big emotional moments, their nervous system is in fight, flight or freeze. They physically cannot “just calm down”.

Here is a gentle way you can help a child settle in under a minute.

No talking.
No reasoning.
Just safety for the body.

Save this for when emotions run high.
Share with a parent who needs this 🤍

Our junk art workshop is all about imagination, problem solving and engineering through play 🧡

As they build, join, test and rebuild, children are learning to:
• Think like engineers
• Understand balance, structure and stability
• Plan, test, and adapt their ideas
• Use creativity to solve problems
• Develop patience, focus and resilience
• Work with real materials and real challenges

There’s no instructions, no right answer and no finished example to copy. Just recycled materials, big ideas, and curious minds!

This is STEM

We have 3 spaces left for tomorrow’s class. See our link in Bio to book ☺️

This might look like a game with balloons, hoops and beanbags… but this child is building the exact skills they need for focus, writing, balance, confidence and emotional regulation.

At I Am Zen, yoga doesn’t always look like yoga, sometimes it looks like play and that’s where the magic happens.

Teaching children to believe in the power of believing in themselves, mind, body and soul.

My name is Katie, owner and founder of I am Zen NI.

I founded I am Zen because of my own passion for mindfulness and yoga which I first discovered the benefits of 7yrs ago after the birth of my 2nd daughter. Totally overwhelmed with the responsibility for two tiny humans I was super anxious.

Anxiety wasn’t a stranger to me, I’d been there before, I’d been there a million times, I was an anxious child who became an anxious teen and then an anxious adult.

Starting yoga, I was quickly hooked!
