When we talk about missed diabetes health checks, it’s not simply a case of people not wanting to go.

The reality is that some people struggle with long appointment times that can clash with important work and family commitments. And when you need to chase your healthcare team to get all your checks because they’re not all covered in one appointment, it can take a lot of effort.

Then, there’s the third of working-age people who say they find it difficult to talk to their employer about taking time off for medical appointments. And there’s stigma. Over half of people with diabetes say they’ve missed appointments because they felt judged or ashamed. That’s a massive number.

Others might feel fine about their diabetes, but when you’re managing the condition day in, day out, it can be hard to prioritise another appointment — especially if nothing feels wrong.

Whatever your story, it's vital that everyone with diabetes gets their regular diabetes health checks. We’ve got lots of information about them, what they mean and why they’re so important, along with free downloadable resources to help you advocate for yourself if you’re not getting the care you expect.

New NICE guidelines are published, to bring earlier access to a range of treatments, for type 2 diabetics.

📢 The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has published new guidelines that will give people with type 2 diabetes access to more effective treatments earlier.

This will transform treatment for many people living with the condition, helping them to improve their self-management and avoid the devastating complications of diabetes.

We’ve campaigned for this with your support and welcome this change which put the focus on prevention and personalised approaches to treatment, as well as ensuring equal access for all.
