Recently, Issy and Natalie from our Orthotics team had the privilege of training directly with IJsbrand de Lange, CEO & Founder of STIL and Lucas Pol, Product Owner & Trainer, to learn about the groundbreaking STIL Orthosis.

The STIL Orthosis is an innovative upper limb brace designed to support and reduce the effects of tremors, offering a life-changing solution for individuals living with conditions such as essential tremor or Parkinson’s disease.

Exciting News from Proactive!

We’re thrilled to announce the opening of our new Manchester clinic and from day one, we’re partnering with the Connect Physio team to ensure our patients have access to amputee specialist physiotherapists for both clinic-based and community rehabilitation.

What does this mean for our patients?
✅ Clinic-based rehab will take place in Proactive’s fully equipped gym, providing a safe and controlled environment for structured therapy sessions.
✅ We can also offer intensive rehab bursts of 3–5 days, ideal for accelerating progress and focusing on specific goals.
✅ Community-based rehab will involve working with patients in real-world settings, helping them regain confidence and independence in everyday activities.

The Connect team is led by Sarah Bradbury, who brings 25 years of experience across NHS rehabilitation, private rehab, and expert witness report writing.

Together, in partnership with our prosthetic and orthotic team, we’re committed to delivering the best possible outcomes in prosthetics and orthotics across the North West.

Next up in our Manchester Clinic series - introducing Isabel Burke, our expert Orthotist.

Issy is delighted to be returning to her hometown of Manchester to support the launch of Proactive’s new Prosthetic and Orthotic clinic in Sale.

This exciting development represents a meaningful milestone in both her professional journey and personal life, and she’s proud to contribute to expanding services in such a vibrant community.

She will be working part-time in Manchester while continuing to care for patients at the Leeds clinic, where she has been based since its opening in October 2023.

Since joining Proactive, Issy has brought a wealth of experience from both NHS and private practice, playing a key role in the development of the Leeds service.

Her clinical approach is defined by meticulous attention to detail, a strong commitment to patient-centred care, and a particular interest in complex lower limb cases. Issy is passionate about delivering high-quality, compassionate care that truly impacts patients’ lives.

Outside of clinic, she enjoys horse riding, exploring the outdoors, discovering new coffee spots, and spending quality time with family and friends.

As we near the launch of our new Manchester Clinic, we will be treating you to sneak peaks, clinic info and most importantly, introducing you to our clinical team 🥼🦿

First up is Sioned Wakefield (Ned) – Clinic Manager & Clinical Lead Prosthetist:

Born and raised in the coastal village of Abersoch, North Wales, Sioned Wakefield brings a wealth of experience, compassion, and innovation to her role as Clinic Manager at our new prosthetic clinic.

After graduating from the University of Salford in 2010, Sioned began her career at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) Headley Court, where she worked from 2010 to 2014, supporting military personnel with complex prosthetic needs.

She then returned to the North to join the Specialist Mobility Rehabilitation Centre (SMRC) in Preston, where she continued to develop her clinical expertise and reputation for patient-centred care.

In August this year, Sioned joined the Proactive Prosthetics team, bringing her unique blend of clinical excellence and creative problem-solving to help patients achieve their goals.

Sioned is known for her kind and friendly approach, always going the extra mile to ensure her patients feel supported and empowered.

She’s a great clinician who thinks outside the box, tailoring solutions to each individual’s lifestyle and aspirations.

Outside of work, Sioned enjoys spending time with her beloved golden retrievers, exploring beaches and hills, paddleboarding, swimming, and attending concerts. Whether she’s in the gym or by the sea, she finds joy in movement and music and brings that same energy and positivity into her clinical practice.

Fun fact - Sioned got the nickname 'Ned' when she joined the RNLI crew in Abersoch at 18 years old and it has stuck ever since, so feel free to call her Ned or Sioned, she really doesn't mind!

While our Manchester clinic prepares to officially open it's doors on the 8th December, Proactive are already offering Immediate Needs Assessments (INAs) for patients in the region.

Our Clinic Manager Sioned Wakefield is currently carrying out INAs across the North - either face-to-face in a temporary clinic setting, or at the patient’s home where preferred.

Each assessment is tailored to the individual’s needs, with flexibility on location to ensure comfort and convenience.

These sessions are designed to help new patients explore their prosthetic options, discuss goals, and plan the best pathway ahead - even before the new clinic doors open.

We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Richard Whitehead to our Proactive Leeds Clinic this week for some fine-tuning and adjustments to his running blades, just in time for his 99th marathon in Chicago this weekend! 🇺🇸

Richard also left us truly inspired (and a little emotional) with his incredible gift - the running blades he used to complete the Zimbabwe Marathon. The dust still clinging to those blades tells a powerful story of determination, resilience, and countless miles of hard work.

Thank you, Richard, for your continued trust in Proactive and for sharing your remarkable journey with us. 🙌
