I was listening to Jeremy Vine yesterday and this was featured. Absolutely fantastic news. Having worked with people with Huntington’s for both swallowing and communication difficulties I’ve seen first hand how devastating this condition is. Brilliant news for so many people.

I have been contacted today to advise that our Goole and Pocklington constituency only has 51 signatures so far! Can I please ask all my friends, family and clients to sign the petition and share it far and wide 🙏

In February 2024 I was interviewed for the Movers and Shakers podcast to share the Goole Parkinson’s support groups views on what changes were needed to provide better healthcare for people living with Parkinson’s. Our views helped create the ‘Parky Charter’ and discussions are ongoing in Parliament. We now need more signatures for the petition.

As a priority, we want to make sure that everyone referred for a possible Parkinson’s diagnosis sees a consultant within 18 weeks and at least once a year after that.

As set out in the Parky Charter, we want:

1. Speedy specialists
2. Instant information
3. Parkinson's passport
4. Comprehensive care
5. Quest for a cure

Parkinson’s is considered the fastest growing neurological condition in the world. We think it’s time for the government to respond to our grave concerns about what we consider systematic failings in Parkinson’s care.

The measures in the Parky Charter, which are supported by the three big Parkinson’s charities, require the government to deliver on their promises, ensuring timely diagnosis, comprehensive care, and dignity for all people with Parkinson’s.

We want the government to take the decisive five steps set out in the Movers and Shakers' "Parky Charter" and to fulfil the Health Secretary’s promises.

A major clinical trial, led by experts at the University of Nottingham, has shown the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT LOUD®) is more effective than the current speech and language therapy provided by the NHS, when treating patients with Parkinson's disease (PD).

I am overwhelmed by this testimonial from Helen and Adam this week. What a privilege it’s been working with this young couple and to be able to make such a difference in Adam’s confidence. We have had so much fun getting to know each other and I’ve loved finding out about all his random hobbies and interests. Speech and Language therapy is not only about improving a persons speech, voice, language or swallowing skills but also about how they feel about the difficulties they are having and how they use these skills to return to communicating with their family, friends and returning to work.

I received some wonderful feedback from Paul and his family today. I‘ve worked with Paul for the last year and its going to be strange not seeing him every week but he has come so far, it's time to stop therapy. He is now attending numerous groups each week using his brilliant voice and making sure everyone hears how funny he is! He is able to join in conversations and socialise with his friends and family and I couldn’t be prouder of all he’s achieved!

I’m loving being back signing after 11 years of not needing to use it every day! I definitely needed a refresher from Regional tutor Kommunikation with Sara as some of the signs have changed in that time and I could have got myself into trouble 😆

Our June meeting was held at West Park Community Cafe and we had the best day. Thank you to Brian and all his team for letting us host our meeting there and for the wonderful buffet. We were visited by Declan Eastwood Sports Therapy who will be joining us at next months meeting to talk all things sports massage and the East Riding Well-being team who are going to be providing some additional activity sessions for the group in the next few months We also enjoyed a well-being walk around the park, luckily the sun was shining for us! ☀️
