🔹Could you spot the symptoms of diabetes in your child?

⛑️ If type 1 diabetes is left undiagnosed, it can get really serious, really quickly. But knowing the signs can avoid a medical emergency and save lives.

✅ Knowing the 4Ts can help you spot the four most common signs of type 1 diabetes in both adults and children, and they’re really easy to remember:

👉Toilet – Going for a wee more often.

👉Thirsty – Non-stop thirst and drinking more than usual.

👉Tired – Feeling more tired and having less energy than usual.

👉Thinner – Unexplained weight loss.

‼️ If you are concerned about your child please take them to see a GP as soon as possible.

⁉️ Did you know women are approx 30% less likely to receive bystander CPR in the UK? As a result more women die. There is a lot of fear & misconception around female CPR so let’s set the record straight.

1. Nobody in the UK has ever been sued for trying to save a life. The SARAH (2015) Act gives legal protection in the UK & Wales to bystanders helping in an emergency.

2. CPR is the same for all adults without or without breasts.

3. Chest compressions are given over clothing!

4. During chest compressions your hands will touch breasts. You may also break a rib BUT you are trying to save a life. This is ok.

5. We only remove clothing and any bras when applying Defibrillator pads. Public AEDs have scissors so you can cut through the centre of a bra.

6. CPR is exactly the same for pregnant women.

7. When using a defibrillator if there are any ni**le piercings you do not need to remove them. Instead avoid placing the pads over them.

8. A 999 call handler will guide you through so please don’t be afraid to have a go.

🙋‍♀️Let’s normalise CPR on women and save more lives!

⛑️ Although most first aid manikins have male torsos I’m pleased to own several female chest forms so I can transform a few of my manikins into females!

⚠️ Did you spot the danger?

The answer: this little one is wearing a thick, puffy coat in their car seat.
It might seem harmless but bulky coats can make car seats far less effective in a crash. That extra padding means the harness isn’t snug against your child’s body, even if it looks tight.

Here’s a quick way to check if a coat is too bulky:
👉 Step 1: Buckle your child into their car seat with their coat on and tighten the straps.
👉 Step 2: Without loosening the straps, take your child out, remove the coat, then buckle them back in.

If you can pinch the strap between your fingers, the coat is too thick to be worn safely.

Instead:
✅ Pop a blanket over them once they’re strapped in
✅ Or use a car seat-safe cover to keep them cosy and protected

🔹Tummy bugs can make your little one feel pretty miserable but usually you can care for your child at home and they’ll recover within about a week.

🔹The biggest risk is dehydration, which is when the body loses too much water and salts and can’t perform its usual functions properly. This can be very serious.

👉 Swipe for symptoms of dehydration in children.

🔹Keep offering breast milk or usual feeds for babies.
🔹For older babies and children give lots of small sips of water.

✅ Most children feel better in a few days but if it lasts longer, get in touch with your GP.

🎇 Sparkler Safety Tip!

‼️ Did you know sparklers can burn at up to 1,649°C? That’s hotter than some flames! They might look magical and be fun for little ones but they can cause very serious burns if not handled carefully.

✅ Here’s a clever little hack for Bonfire Night
🥕Instead of letting little hands hold the metal stick, pop the end of the sparkler into a carrot!

➡️The carrot doesn’t conduct heat
➡️It’s easier for small hands to grip
➡️And it keeps the sparkler further from their face and body

🪣Keep a bucket of water or sand nearby for used sparklers.
Always supervise closely - once it’s gone out, take it from them straight away.

🎇Stay safe and have a sparkling Bonfire Night!!

⭐️ Expecting a little star this November?

Their birthstone is the topaz - bringing strength, wisdom, and a little sparkle to their personality.
Their birth flower, the chrysanthemum, radiates love, joy, and positivity.

♏️♐️ Depending on when they arrive, they’ll be either a passionate Scorpio or an adventurous Sagittarius.
