PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING FOR AN APPOINTMENT.

Due to a change in the rental agreement I have unfortunately had to close my clinic in Chafford Hundred.

Whilst I look for possible new premises I am still available online for physiotherapy and running coaching.

I am also working from two clinics. Acer House Practice in Farningham, in Kent and Complete Physio in London.

If you would like to be seen online or at either of the above clinics then please do get in touch.

Kind Regards
Alex

SWIPE TO FIND OUT!
Okay so this may seem a rather obvious and tongue in cheek answer but it's true and I wanted to make this post for a couple of reasons.
1. I think it's important we understand the difference between correlation and causation. While lots of factors have been shown to be correlated with a higher incidence of running related injuries this does not mean we can confidently say they are causative. A simple way of thinking of this is that lots of runners that don't get injured will have these same risk factors.
2. Injuries are often complex and multifactorial in nature. And you often don't need to address everything. But at the same time trying to pin down and address a sole cause for your injury is unlikely to be successful.
If you are injured or continually picking up injuries I think it is invaluable to get help from someone who has a breadth of knowledge who can help you unpick the possible contributing factors for the injury and help you address them.
As always any feedback or comments greatly appreciated and feel free to reach out if you need some help.

CAN YOU BE TOO PASSIONATE ABOUT RUNNING?? SURELY NOT?
As a runner and someone who works with lots of runners, it is pretty clear that we are a bit of an obsessive bunch and once you get that running bug it can quickly take over your life.
I therefore found this study really interesting. It highlighted a correlation between being obsessively passionate about running and increased injury rates. Important to note that it was a pilot observational study, and the results certainly don't infer a causative link. But still quite interesting nonetheless.
I would say I've certainly in the past been in a position where I've ignored little niggles, sacrificed sleep, and even changed social plans to fit that run in, or complete part of a training plan.
Now I try and have a much better balance, more varied training and less self imposed pressure.
There may well be a time and place for letting that obsessive passion take over a bit (elite/competitive level running), but for most I think trying to harmoniously balance running with other aspects of your life would be beneficial.
Would love to know your thoughts on this one.

Haven't done one of these in a while but was really proud of these two reviews from running clients. One who had been struggling with recurrent injuries and one who wanted a kick-start plan to get some structure into their weekly training.
Looking forward to completing the next level of my running coach qualification over the next few months and continuing to help more people
Have a great weekend everyone!

THE SUNK COST FALLACY.
Have had some interesting chats with clinicians, patients and athletes recently about why we continue to stick with a treatment or training plan when it either isn't working as well as we had hoped or even at all.
Sunk cost fallacy is an economics term used when individuals or companies have invested time and money into something and then continue to do so even if the continued costs perhaps outweigh any benefits.
I think this can often be the case clinically as well and can be driven by the patient, clinician, athlete or a combination.
Sometimes we just need to stop, review and be honest. It is okay to change course or plan in relation to your treatment or training. You haven't wasted those resources or time and money, you have learned.
Does this sound familiar, any thoughts greatly received.

TIP NO. 8 FOR NEW AND RETURNING RUNNERS.
This is the last one in this series of simple tips. While writing them it's become clear most can be applied to all levels of runner, to other sports, and even other aspects of life.
It is not a sign of weakness or stupidity to ask for help or advice. And there are many, many benefits to seeking help, mentorship or coaching.
There is also lots and lots of conflicting advice out there online. So my advice here is simple, find someone knowledgeable, who you trust and is able to guide you when required. This could be full on coaching or someone you just ask the odd question about your training plan, niggles, events etc.
This was by no means an exhaustive list of tips/advice but I hope some have found them useful.
As ever, questions, comments welcome.

TIP NO.7 FOR NEW AND RETURNING RUNNERS.
This post is hopefully quite self explanatory. It is hard work physically and mentally to regain fitness after missing an extended period of training and with a busy life it is often hard to get back into a training routine.
Often clients I work with will have an all or nothing mentality and if they don't have time to complete an entire training or rehab session then they won't do any of it or if they miss a session in the week the rest of the week gets sacrificed.
There are obviously times where missing a complete session may be needed, but most of the time I encourage people to have an 'all or something' approach.
Questions and comments welcome as always. Have a great week!

Really grateful for this review. The patient worked incredibly hard and we were able to achieve a brilliant outcome with a combination of virtual appointments in the early stages of his recovery and clinic based appointments for the end stages.
If you're struggling with pain or injury then do seek help. Face to face appointments are continuing during lockdown 2.0 and virtual appointments remain available too.

TIP NO.6 FOR NEW AND RETURNING OTHERS.
Again this couple be applied to all levels of runners, all sports and even to general life.
Not much to add to this one, being competitive is often a good thing, but it is not required in training and often leads to people pushing themselves too hard and ignoring early warning signs from their body.
The beauty of running for me is also that you are only really comparing yourself to yourself.
