Sadly, we have had to say goodbye to Martin’s Mum, Mabs, who passed on the 30th of October. She was almost 95 and had lived an amazing life here in Malvern. We are very grateful for all the support and care of those around us at this time.

Mabs was incredibly important in helping in the start of the Beacon Clinic; she was there in the early days, helping with babysitting as we decorated each evening. She also made all the curtains. Once, the clinic was opened she would pop in every weekend to help with keeping an eye on the place and would water all the plants and do flower arranging and hanging baskets. We are so grateful to her for the support she gave us in creating the Beacon Clinic.

We have decided to ask for Christmas donations this year to go towards St Richards Hospice, as they supported Mabs and us so well in her final days. We will have our usual collection box in the clinic reception, or you can donate online. Thank you to all who wish to share in supporting the valuable work of this local charity.

There are things we can do to protect our own mental wellbeing. Here are some useful ideas thanks to the Mental Health Foundation on how to manage feelings of being overwhelmed by things we cannot influence, and also how to positively manage the impact of social media on our mental health.

What is Traditional Acupuncture?

Traditional Acupuncture aims to ease symptoms by harmonising and balancing energy flow in the meridians (the energy channels of the body). Acupuncture points are used not only at a physical level but also for a person’s mind, spirit and emotions. Once balance is restored, a person’s health improves and the natural capacity of the person to heal themselves can function better.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend, and enjoy the sun, stay safe. ☀

Here are 9 simple tips for beating the heat:
- Don't forget the sun-cream, hat and sunglasses
- Slow down
- Drink lots of water to stay hydrated
- Use a fan to create a breeze and close curtains in rooms facing the sun
- Go where it feels coolest and keep out of the sun at the hottest time of the day, between 11am and 3pm
- Check in on friends, neighbours and family who may be at higher risk of becoming unwell in the heat
- Use lightweight clothing, especially for babies
- Use wet towels, hoses or showers to cool down
- Cut back on alcohol and caffeinated drinks that make you dehydrated

It’s , and the focus this year is community and how being part of a safe, positive community is vital for our mental health and wellbeing. Humans need each other for a sense of safety and belonging, and this then helps us when times get hard and we need to support one another.

It’s important to remember you are not alone and there are many ways to reach out for support and to create connections with others.

We at the Beacon Clinic try to create a safe and kind space for both practitioners and clients alike. If you feel you need extra help with your mental health please reach out to one of our counsellors for some support.

Thank you to Mental Health Foundation for their resources and suggestions for finding your community, please visit there website for more information.
