Be kind to yourself. ❤️ Stress is more stressful during perimenopause /menopause when our oestrogen levels decline.
Oestrogen helps buffer the effects of cortisol on our body, and we lose this protection which can make us anxious.
When we are stressed our adrenal glands release adrenaline and cortisol. These prompt changes within our body systems allowing us to respond appropriately to the stress.
These changes can leave us feeling jittery.
We can cope short term. Long term we can’t. High levels of cortisol over an extended period can lead to serious health issues.
Our body prioritises the production of cortisol and adrenaline over other hormones. Chronic stress depletes our body.
Women who are neurodiverse feel it harder, as it can exacerbate their symptoms.
We all feel it when during peri menopause.
Sadly we can’t eliminate everything that causes us stress but we can mitigate some of the negative effects of stress with self care and focusing on what we can control.
Food, exercise, relationships, work, sleep, mindset and relaxation all play a key role.
Find something to help you relax.
