I say specialist as I'm not often beaten when it comes to a DPF light on the dash!

In the last week I have seen 3 vehicles where customers have been advised to have the dpf cleaned or deleted, all of these had been misdiagnosed!! 🚨 😬

BMW - Told to get a forced regen. I don't do regens without seeing the car first, dpf was too blocked for a regen so a clean was required. 🫧
MERC - Customer advised to have a DPF delete. Diagnostics done, fault with intake manifold causing the dpf light. The DPF is healthy and deleting it wouldn't have cured the problem. 😳
FORD - Customer had regen done (it failed), advised to have a clean. DPF test did show a clean was required, but the regen failed because the vapouriser wasn't working. ✅️

The other most common peice of advice is to take it for a drive and leave it in 3rd gear at 60mph for 30 minutes..... don't do this without a diagnostic first, you can cause all sorts of problems for yourself. 💰

Here's the thing, DPF warnings appear to generally tell you to get the car to a garage, it doesn't mean the DPF is the sole problem, if at all. Quite often I end up curing a DPF fault without actually cleaning the DPF.

In the last 6 years I rekon I have condemned maybe 4 DPF's in total, cleaned countless others and regen'd a couple dozen. 😳

DPF deleting is illegal and is a very last resort for me, I don't generally offer it as a repair, I'll do it if the customer is 110% sure that is the route they want to go and have good knowledge of the proceedure and legalities surrounding it.

If you have a suspected DPF fault please don't hesitate to give me a call, we can go through the fault, your driving styles, vehicle behaviour on the phone and get it booked in for a diagnostic to find the best route for repair.

First job of the day was reported as a suspected EGR fault however on arrival I found that the exhaust pressure sensor had been mullered (it looks like by a hacksaw or something)!
No EGR faults present, so we'll replace this first and then we can go for a drive and see if we're good. :)
