LETS TALK ABOUT PORTION SIZES…… 🧐

Large meals can be off putting, so offer smaller meals and snacks more often.

Offering realistic portion sizes can help to encourage your child with eating.

What is a portion?

Consider this if your child can’t manage three meals and two snacks a day.

Reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)

ℹ️It's not known why some babies die suddenly and for no apparent reason from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), or cot death.

ℹ️Experts do know placing a baby to sleep on their back reduces the risk, and exposing a baby to cigarette smoke or allowing them to overheat increases the risk.

ℹ️It's also known there's an association between sleeping with your baby on a bed, sofa or chair (co-sleeping) and SIDS.

Your baby’s brain is making a million new connections every second, making the first two years so important for their healthy development.
That means building strong connections during this period of your baby’s life lays the groundwork for their future well-being and mental health.
Lovingly meeting your baby’s needs helps them to learn to manage their emotions and build their confidence, and reduces the risk of future mental health issues.
Babies don’t come with a manual, but they do work hard to try to be understood. Knowing how to interpret their body language, facial expressions, noises, and cries can help you effectively meet their needs.
Start for Life’s ‘If They Could Tell You…’ campaign is aimed at helping parents understand their baby’s needs, enabling them to foster strong relationships.
For the latest advice on how best to build your relationship with your baby, you can find support and free resources, including tips and learning materials, at the Start for Life Hub https://www.nhs.uk/start-for-life/baby/baby-basics/bonding-with-your-baby/.

WARNING ⚠️ ⛔️ CAR SEATS
⚠️Think chin off the chest⚠️

🔺There is a risk your baby could stop breathing if the child’s not positioned correctly in their car seat
🔺If the chin touches the chest whilst your baby is slouched forward, their airway can be cut off so they cannot breathe. This is called 'positional asphyxiation'.
🔺Car seats are designed to keep your child safe and secure when used correctly.

🔺You can reduce the risk by only using your car seat in the car and according to manufacturer’s guidelines.
🔺Remove your baby’s outerwear to make sure they are sat in an upright position, and to avoid overheating.

Thank you Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust for this great safety information
