HAPPY 5th BIRTHDAY to Scottish Families Inverclyde.

What a treat on my lunch break to go for a sound bath, experience some healing reiki , eat cake and play with Lego, also meeting old and new faces.

Today was an exciting day as I started a four week block of working with Scottish Families affected by Alcohol and Drugs.

We are learning about self esteem and ways to improve it.

We will do this by -

🔆 Learning what healthy versus unhealthy self esteem is and the cycles that keep it going
🔆Modifying core beliefs
🔆Behavioural activation
🔆Building a positive self image

Each week we will also learn an emotional regulation skill to take home. 🧰

📈 Aim to be 1% better everyday. 📈

This may seem a strange concept but long term the impacts will be life changing.

CBT can help you look at adjusting behaviours and help you lead a more fulfilling life. Behavioural activation can help you explore where you are at just now and where you can make improvements. Improving behaviours can help us improve our routine, self esteem, our mental and physical health, increase motivation and have a better sense of mastery over our lives.

💔 When your friends are part of these statistics it hits even harder. 😞

But you guys are more than a statistic.

💫You were a mum, a daughter, you were smart, trendy, artistic, intelligent, funny, caring especially for animals. You will always be remembered. ♥️

💫 You were a step dad , a son, a brother, funny, cheeky, loved your dance tunes, loved a selfie, you were loyal and caring. You will not be forgotten. ♥️

All Scotland’s drug deaths are preventable with the right help.

If you stigmatise those who are addicted whether it be to substances or behaviours please educate yourself about trauma and addiction, how it rewires your brain and just how difficult it is to overcome it.

🤝 Recovery is possible but it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. It’s important to have the right people around you, people who help you feel safe and connected, this is where we can begin our journey. 👣

Take a bow Gemma Muir and the Sisco team 👏🏼

Outstanding performance, I felt all the emotions last night.

I was lucky I got to see a wee snippet years ago on a visit to Sisco and now to see it performed in a theatre is mind blowing. Seeing the guys up there acting out true life stories was deeply moving.

Please know there is always help out there if you are feeling suicidal reach out. The world is a better place with you in it. ♥️

✏️ Lots of learning and self development on my somatic trauma therapy course.

🧘🏼‍♀️ Can’t wait to offer a skill to help people connect, release and feel safe in their bodies.

✋🏼 Simple movement can be such a powerful way to release stored trauma.

✨ My first online CBT group ✨

10 women came together to discuss their struggles with hormones and mental health, share ways they cope and learn some new CBT tools to take home.

Our topic explored Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD). PMDD is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome that significantly affects emotional and physical health. Understanding PMDD is crucial for improving the quality of life for individuals impacted by this disorder.

More often than not addiction is rooted in childhood trauma.

Childhood trauma is a predisposing factor that makes someone more vulnerable to using substances as a way of coping and self soothing.

In my time working in residential rehab there wasn’t one client who didn’t have some form of childhood trauma.

So important as a society we look beyond the addiction and see the person. 🤍

🗣️ I have a couple of spaces coming up for either online or face to face therapy.

🏗️ For face to face I’m based in Greenock two days a week.

💻 Remotely I work with clients from the Isle of Arran and beyond. I can work with anyone, anywhere within the UK.

📔 I am open for bookings for future group work. These are normally run in blocks. I can tailor make the groups to suit the service needs. I can offer general wellbeing groups, specific CBT groups such as self esteem, emotional regulation skills, staff training within organisations and decider skills. I work with a broad range of clients from those in recovery, people through the justice system, women only groups, family groups and more.
