Let’s talk about the recent news articles regarding private ultrasound clinics!
Firstly, we appreciate this can be worrying to hear. We want to assure our patients that all of our sonographers are qualified to CASE accredited standards, and registered with professional bodies such an HCPC, RCT, NMC. We are regulated by CQC so follow strict protocols. Whilst we are not diagnostic, we have specific procedures in place to refer potential anomalies, and do so regularly.
Why are we different than other private clinics?
ALL of our staff members, not only Sonographers, work within the NHS. We feel this is extremely important as our staff understand the guidelines used in practice. Many clinics employ sonographers with qualifications from overseas who are not working in the NHS, and therefore although they may be registered with regulatory bodies, lack understanding of UK protocols. We follow ALARA, meaning our scans are always safe.
Why is it worth visiting?
We can often fill the gaps between your important NHS ultrasound appointments. Many women have experienced previous miscarriage or pregnancy complications and we are able to provide much needed reassurance, especially in early pregnancy. Sometimes the wait for early pregnancy scans in the NHS is longer than hoped, and your mental health matters too! We also allow more than one person to visit with you, allowing for precious family bonding time.
We hope that in the near future, sonography will become a protected title and therefore become better regulated, meaning you won’t have to worry you are receiving the right care. But rest assured we are constantly improving in order to improve patient experience and most importantly keeping you and baby safe during your appointments! ✨
Has this affected you? We would love to hear from you and answer any questions you may have!
