💙 Why I Care 💙
"I qualified as a nurse in 2010 through Sheffield Hallam University. When I qualified, I worked at Louth County Hospital before going off to Australia to work as a nurse and to travel for a year. On returning I worked at St Hughs Private Hospital. During this year, I missed the lifestyle and the adventure of Australia. So, I applied for a job in Orthopaedics and gained sponsorship through Ramsay Healthcare and relocated to Cairns, Australia, where I worked as an Orthopaedic nurse for 5 years. During this time, I was given the opportunity to go on secondment to be the Infection Prevention and Control Lead for a year. It was at this time that I found my passion for Infection Prevention and Control."
"When I returned to England, at the beginning of COVID, I saw an advertisement for a Community IPC nurse specialist. I jumped at the chance despite being in the early days of a global pandemic. I haven’t looked back since. When I came back from Maternity Leave at the end of 2023, I became the Clinical Lead for the team."
"I enjoy being an infection prevention and control nurse because it allows me to combine my passion for patient care with my commitment to safety and prevention. Every day, I have the opportunity to protect patients, staff, and the community by implementing evidence-based practices that reduce the spread of infection."
"I find it incredibly rewarding to educate healthcare teams, develop policies that promote best practices, and respond proactively to potential risks before they become larger issues. Infection control nursing challenges me to stay current with evolving guidelines and emerging infections. Knowing that my work helps create a safer healthcare environment gives me a strong sense of purpose and professional fulfilment, that’s why I care." 💙
