Today is World Diabetes Day, a reminder of the progress made and the work still to do.
November 14 marks the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, co-discoverer of insulin in 192, a breakthrough that turned diabetes from a fatal diagnosis into a manageable condition.
More than 5 million people in the UK live with diabetes, yet myths persist.
Let’s set the record straight:
✅ Type 1 diabetes isn’t caused by lifestyle — it’s an autoimmune condition.
✅ Type 2 diabetes is complex — genetics, age, and other factors matter, not just sugar intake.
✅ People with diabetes can eat carbs and sugar — it’s about balance and monitoring, not total restriction.
✅ Diabetes is serious — without proper care, it can lead to heart disease, kidney damage, and sight loss.
This World Diabetes Day, let’s share knowledge and compassion.
